About the Program

The Educational and Professional Programme for the first (Bachelor’s) level of higher education in E2 Ecology specifies the number of ECTS credits required to obtain the relevant degree; the graduate competencies; the normative content of higher education, expressed in terms of learning outcomes; the forms of student assessment and certification; and the requirements for an internal quality assurance system for higher education.

The Educational and Professional Programme focuses on training specialists in applied ecology, with an emphasis on environmental assessment, monitoring, and management under conditions of anthropogenic pressure. Its primary focus is on developing competencies in environmental monitoring of air, water, soil, and biota; assessing the ecological status of natural and artificial communities; analysing environmental risks; ensuring environmental safety; designing and implementing environmental protection measures; applying environmentally sound technologies to restore anthropogenically degraded ecosystems; and fostering a mindset oriented towards the development of a sustainable society.

Keywords: ecology, environmental protection, anthropogenic impact, environmental monitoring, environmental safety, sustainable use of natural resources, environmental protection measures, environmental compliance monitoring.

Purpose of the Educational Program

The programme aims to equip future specialists with a comprehensive set of knowledge, skills, and competencies for professional practice in ecology, environmental protection, and sustainable natural resource management. It also seeks to develop competencies that support specialists’ personal and professional growth and enhance their competitiveness in the modern labour market.

The Educational and Professional Programme is aligned with the university’s strategic development priorities, as outlined in the Holosiiv Initiative 2030 programme. These priorities include training highly qualified specialists to European standards, fostering innovative thinking, integrating education and research, implementing European quality assurance standards in higher education, and strengthening the university’s role as a leader in ecology, sustainable development, and life sciences.

Subject Area of the Educational Program

Field of Study E: Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics

Specialty E2: Ecology

Object of Study: The structure and functional components of ecosystems at different levels and of different origins; anthropogenic impacts on the environment and the optimisation of natural resource use.

Learning Objectives: To equip higher education students with a comprehensive set of knowledge, skills, and competencies required for professional practice in ecology, environmental protection, and sustainable natural resource management.

Theoretical Content of the Subject Area: Concepts, theories, and principles of the natural sciences and modern ecology, and their application to environmental protection, sustainable natural resource management, and sustainable development.

Methods, Methodologies, and Technologies: Students are expected to acquire proficiency in methods for collecting, processing, and interpreting the results of environmental research.

Tools and Equipment: Equipment, facilities, and software required for field-based, laboratory, and remote investigations of the structure and properties of ecological systems at different levels and of different origins.

Features of the Educational Program

For one student group, the Educational and Professional Programme is delivered in English. Completion of the programme requires students to undertake compulsory academic and professional placements at organisations and enterprises operating in the environmental protection sector.

Employment

In accordance with the current edition of the National Classification of Ukraine: Classification of Occupations (DK 003:2010) and the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08), graduates holding the professional qualification of Bachelor of Ecology may be employed in positions corresponding to the following occupational titles:

  1. Environmental Technician (3211);

  2. Nature Protection Inspector (3212);

  3. Junior Specialist in Nature Reserve Management (3212);

  4. Consultant in Nature Reserve Management (3213);

  5. Specialist in Natural Resource Management (3439).

Further Study

Graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology are eligible to pursue a Master’s degree in E2 Ecology under the educational and professional programmes Environmental Control and Auditing or Ecology and Environmental Protection, or to continue their studies in other specialities within the relevant specialised fields.
