Educational and Research Farm «Vorzel»

The purpose of the educational and research farm's activities comprises educational, scientific research, educational-industrial, and other types of activities related to the educational and educational-innovative process in the system of training specialists at NUBiP of Ukraine, as well as the conduct of scientific research work by the university's staff.

The 'Vorzel' Educational and Research Farm was established in 1997, and prior to that time, on the initiative of Prof. P. Pshenychnyi and K. Sviechyn, it held the status of the beef cattle breeding research station of the UAA (Ukrainian Agricultural Academy). Under the general supervision of Prof. K. Sviechyn between 1961 and 1981, the staff of the station, the veterinary faculty, and the zooengineering faculty published 10 volumes of the research station's proceedings, which elucidated the specifics of the formation of meat productivity in cattle of various breeds under different levels of energetic nutrition and housing of the animals.

The station's employees developed a technology for the alternating feeding of animals during the intensive rearing of cattle for meat, which was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of Ukraine, and they created the Ukrainian beef breed (A. Ugnivenko, V. Tkachuk). Based on the station's materials, under the supervision of Professor K. Sviechyn, 8 doctoral and 52 candidate's dissertations were defended.

Pursuant to Resolution No. 12978/87 of the CMU (Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine) dated 09.07.1997 and Order No. 189 of the NAU (National Agrarian University) dated 30.07.1997, the status and name of the Dairy Cattle Breeding Research Station were changed to the 'Vorzel' Educational and Research Farm, and in connection with the renaming of the NAU to NUBiP of Ukraine, the 'Vorzel' ERF received its current name from 1 January 2009 – the Separate Subdivision of NUBiP of Ukraine 'Vorzel Educational and Research Farm'.

The 'Vorzel' ERF has 600 hectares of agricultural land in its use, of which 280 hectares are arable land.

With the outbreak of Russia's full-scale military aggression (24 February 2022), the 'Vorzel' ERF found itself under occupation and could not perform its functions. By a decision of the rectorate, in order to preserve the animal husbandry potential, the relocation of the herd to the Separate Subdivision of NUBiP of Ukraine 'O. Muzychenko Velykosnitynske Educational and Research Farm' was organised. This work was carried out in a highly organised manner over the course of several days.

After the liberation of the territory, the farm faced new challenges: the fields were mined, and executing technological operations for crop care and harvesting grain crops without conducting demining measures was impossible. Following the implementation of such measures, it was possible to harvest crops from only 64% of the sown areas.

The main task for the 'Vorzel' ERF in the near future is the complete restoration of the farm's activities, encompassing both its production sphere and the base for the practical training of students, founded on the principles of innovation and the use of new technologies.
