NUBiP Scientific Library strengthens international cooperation

July 21, 2021

On July 13, 2021, Tetyana Kishchak, Head of the Scientific Library, paid a working visit to the Penn State University Libraries.

During the meeting, Mark Mattson, Head of Global Engagement Initiatives and International Partnerships Librarian, presented the library's resources (printed and electronic), as well as the departments of the library.

The Penn State University Libraries consists of 36 libraries at 22 locations in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The library fund contains over 6 million books, the library staff consists of 576 employees, of which 20 people work in the department of rare and valuable publications. It was a pleasure to see books by prominent Ukrainian writers and poets in one of the reading rooms.

The library is equipped with comfortable reading rooms with open access to books, periodicals, video libraries with modern films, as well as convenient working places suitable for individual and group work with free access to the necessary computer equipment and the Internet.

In addition, there are rooms with 3D printers and virtual reality rooms.

In the near future, it is planned to open a room with the latest equipment that will allow students and teachers to record video meetings and conversations at the touch of a button.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has made adjustments to the work of the library, as all university students are currently studying online, and therefore use the services of the library remotely. For those who still want and can visit the library in person, a virtual librarian is on duty at the entrance, who remotely helps visitors to find the necessary information and directs them to the right department or reading room.

During the meeting, both parties agreed to continue cooperation, as the experience of such a significant library is useful and necessary.

Afterwards, Mark Matson gave a tour of the university campus and all famous attractions, loved by the students and guests of the university.

Head of the Scientific Library of NUBiP of Ukraine expresses her sincere gratitude to the university administration, and especially to Vice-Rector Vadym Tkachuk, for their support and help in the organisation of the trip.
