Forecast for Movement of Air Masses Potentially Contaminated with Fires in Exclusion Zone on 10 and 11 April

April 10, 2020
Kyiv

According to the information provided by the SNRIU Information and Emergency Center as of 08:00 a.m. on 10 April 2020, there are individual fire areas in the Denisovytsky, Kotovsky and Korogodsky forestry districts in the Exclusion Zone.

The RODOS decision support system modeled potential spread of atmospheric air contaminated with combustion products over the Kyiv region based on weather forecast data and using data on location of the fire areas and fire behavior.

The forecast calculations for 10 April 2020 indicate that potentially contaminated air masses will pass through the Ivankovsky, Borodyansky, and Vyshgorodsky districts of the Kyiv region and Kyiv. The forecasted Cs-137 concentrations in the near-ground layer of air in Kyiv can reach several mBq/m3. These concentrations do not pose a threat to the life and health of the population and are more than 100 times lower than the acceptable level established by NRBU-97, which is 800 mBq/m3.

The forecast for the spread of potentially contaminated air masses from 03:00 a.m. on 10 April to 03:00 a.m. on 11 April 2020 is presented below.
