Experience exchange with Lithuanian colleagues: technology transfer

    Technology transfer is an instrument that allows to transform scientific achievements into a business product.

    At the request of Lithuanian colleagues, a working meeting with the representatives of Aleksandras Stulginskis University and Vytautas Magnus University was held at NUBiP of Ukraine. The delegation of Vytautas Magnus University included Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Dr. Saulius Mickevičius and Manager of the Technology Transfer Center, Milda Žaliauskaitė. Aleksandras Stulginskis University was represented by Head of the Park of Agricultural Science and Technology, Virginijus Venskutonis, Associate Professor of the Agricultural and Food Sciences Institute, Asta Ramaškevičienė, communication and technology transfer managers Rita Petlickaitė and Indrė Bručienė.
 

 

    In addition to exchanging views on cooperation in technology transfer, the guests shared their views on the reform of higher education in Lithuania. One of the challenges to Lithuania's higher education system is reduction of the number of university entrants, and as a consequence, the unification of universities. The aforementioned universities will be united into one university in the new calendar year. NUBiP of Ukraine was represented by Head of the Research Department, Volodymyr Otchenashko, Head of the Education and Research Centre For International Activity, Oleksandr Labenko, Dean of the Agrobiological Faculty, Oksana Tonkha, Dean of the Faculty of Agrarian Management, Anatoliy Ostapchuk, deputy deans for international cooperation of the abovementioned faculties, Yuriy Kravchenko and Olena Kovtun, Head of the Innovation Sector, Oleksandr Morozov.

    Virginijus Venskutonis, Head of the Park of Agricultural Science and Technology, shared his experience in the field of technology transfer and innovation. In particular, he noted that the most successful activity of the Park was the organization of exhibitions and educational events, as well as introduction of biotechnological innovations into production.

 

    Volodymyr Otchenashko presented information on the research and innovation structure of the university, directions of scientific research and developments of university scientists, as well as experience of their introduction into production and commercialization. Oleksandr Labenko dwelled on the structure of the university and the network of international relations, directions of possible cooperation within the existing European education and scientific programs.

    Dean of the Agrobiological Faculty, Oksana Tonkha, presented the structural organization of the faculty, its scientific work, courses taught in English, the contingent of full-time and part-time students for the Bachelor and Master academic degrees in the following fields of study: Agronomy, Horticulture and Viticulture. Oksana Tonkha offered to launch joint double diplomas programs with the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Vytautas Magnus University for master students and semester training for bachelor students as a part of Erasmus+ program.

    Yuriy Kravchenko presented the international activity of the faculty, identified priorities of scientific cooperation under Horizon-2020 program and mentioned the initiation of ERASMUS+ mobility program. Yuriy Kravchenko also suggested holding a joint scientific and practical conference involving Ukrainian and Lithuanian business entities aimed at rapid implementation and commercialization of scientific research in agriculture and industry of both Ukraine and Lithuania.

    Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Management, Anatoliy Ostapchuk, shared his experience with double diplomas programs and practical training of students, and also offered to launch a double diplomas program in Management. Olena Kovtun dwelled on introduction process of double diplomas programs and expressed her opinion on launching a double diplomas program between universities, taking into account training specifics of technology transfer managers.

   The next step was a visit to the Faculty of Food Technologies and Quality Management of Agricultural Products. Dean of the Faculty, Larysa Bal-Prilipko, together with Deputy Dean for International Cooperation, Olena Ochkolyas, hospitably met the guests. During the conversation, the Dean acquainted the guests with the structure of the faculty, its main achievements in recent years and prospects for further development.

    Lithuanian scientists were interested in scientific research of the faculty in the field of healthy nutrition. Larisa Bal-Prylypko explained the new research trends in meat, fish and dairy processing industries.

    The guests also visited the Faculty's training laboratories. During the excursion, Lithuanian colleagues noted the relevance of the specialties taught at the faculty and emphasized the importance of acquiring not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills.

    We hope that future cooperation between NUBiP of Ukraine and our Lithuanian colleagues will be fruitful and will result in a number of scientific and educational international projects.
