University Scientists Returned from the Expedition to Shatsky National Natural Park
For over 15 years our university and the Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology in particular conduct research of water ecosystems of the lakes of Shatsky National Natural Park. The scientists study the representatives of ichthyofauna of the reservoirs, such as Peipsi whitefish, pygmy catfish and eel.
Peipsi whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus maraenoides Polyakow, 1874)
American catfish (Ictalurus nebulosus (Rafinesque, 1818)
River eel (Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus, 1758)
The university elaborated the scientific and biological study on reclamation fishing for the next year that was sent to Shatsky National Natural Park.
The scientific and biological study on reclamation fishing in the lakes of Shatsky National Natural Park for 2015
On September 11-15, 2014 the university scientists held the expedition aimed at the study of fish fauna of Shatsky lakes. It was attended by the employees of the Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology and the Education, Research and Production Laboratory of Biological Productivity of Reservoirs and Ecology of Fish Farming — P.G. Shevchenko, I.S. Mytyai, graduate student Ye.Ye. Redko and master of production training, A.V. Klymkovetskyy.
The researchers conducted ichthyological, hydrobiological and hydrochemical study of lakes Svityaz, Lyutsymer, Pulemetske, Ostrivyanske, Chorne Velyke, Luky and Peremut.

The scientists evaluated the state and prospects of the use of reservoirs. It is planned to carry out a scientific and biological study of fishing exploitation of the park lakes for the next 5 years.
During the expedition young scientists selected the necessary material and were able to conduct numerous research.

To conclude the expedition, the Head of the Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology of the university, Petro Shevchenko, delivered the report at the 10th Conference “State and biodiversity of ecosystems of Shatsky National Natural Park”.
