NUBiP of Ukraine in the global THE WUR 2027 ranking

The National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine is represented in the new annual and one of the most influential international academic rankings — Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027.

This year, it included 2,297 universities from 118 countries, which is a record high in the history of the ranking. Thus, the global academic ranking environment continues to expand, and competition among universities is intensifying. According to the results of THE World University Rankings 2027, NUBiP of Ukraine is represented in the 2001+ ranking group among universities worldwide. At the same time, among European universities, it ranks 593th. Among Ukrainian higher education institutions represented in the ranking, the university holds the 11th place.

Times Higher Education assesses the performance of universities in key areas that cover the main components of a modern research university's functioning: the quality of the educational environment, research activity and its results, international integration, as well as cooperation with business. The ranking is based on a system of indicators, combined into 5 main blocks: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook. The greatest weight is given to research quality (30%), educational environment (29.5%), and research environment (29%).

This year, NUBiP of Ukraine has the following results in categories:

  • Teaching — 18.4 points,

  • Research Environment — 11.4 points,

  • Research Quality — 22.0 points,

  • Industry — 19.2 points

  • and International Outlook — 27.6 points.

The university demonstrates the highest result in the International Outlook indicator, which characterizes international cooperation in scientific research, as well as the representation of foreign students and academic staff. The second largest indicator is Research Quality, which reflects the influence and quality of the university's scientific results.

At the same time, this year's results are important to consider in dynamics. Compared to THE World University Rankings 2026, NUBiP of Ukraine has improved its performance in four out of five main evaluation areas. Teaching increased from 16.7 to 18.4 points, Research Environment from 9.2 to 11.4, Research Quality from 20.5 to 22.0, and International Outlook from 25.7 to 27.6.

The positive trend is particularly indicative in those areas that carry the most weight in the Times Higher Education methodology. Teaching, Research Environment, and Research Quality together form 88.5% of the university's overall assessment, and NUBiP has demonstrated growth in all three indicators this year. This indicates an improvement in results not only for individual auxiliary indicators but also in the key components of the THE ranking model.

Subject sub-rankings allow for a more detailed examination of a university's standing, as they assess results not only for the institution as a whole but also for individual fields, taking into account the specifics of the respective industries. NUBiP of Ukraine is represented in several subject categories at once, which indicates the university's established interdisciplinary structure, where alongside the traditionally strong natural-biological and technological block, engineering, digital, economic, and social areas are developing. Positioning in the main category Life Sciences (1001+), which includes a significant portion of research related to biological sciences, agriculture, and life sciences, and simultaneously in Engineering (1251+) and Computer Science (1001+) reflects the development of the university's technological and digital competencies. The representation in Business and Economics (1001+) and Social Sciences (1001+) emphasizes the comprehensive nature of specialist training and scientific research.

The results of THE World University Rankings 2027 demonstrate a positive trend for NUBiP of Ukraine across most key components of the ranking. The growth of four out of five indicators, including all three most significant components of the THE methodology, indicates a gradual strengthening of the university's educational, research, and international profile. The best results over the last four ranking cycles for Research Environment and International Outlook are particularly important, as is the resumption of growth in Research Quality.

Participation in the global THE ranking environment allows the university to assess its own dynamics according to internationally recognized indicators and to determine priorities for further strengthening its position in the global educational and scientific space. Against the backdrop of a further increase in the number of universities in the THE World University Rankings, such dynamics create a foundation for further strengthening the international visibility and competitiveness of NUBiP of Ukraine.
