NUBiP representative presented Ukrainian experience in implementing the «Women, Peace, Security» agenda at international events in Italy

In the first half of June, Ukraine significantly strengthened international partnerships in the field of gender equality and security by participating in a number of strategic events in Rome and Naples. Ukrainian experience during these events was presented by Anatoliy DOSYCH, a postgraduate student of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP), a consultant to the Office of the Government Commissioner for gender policy.

Women’s leadership and the Eighth meeting of the «Women, Peace and Security» (WPS) Network of Coordinators was held on June 8, the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome, which also hosted the event «Women’s Leadership in Peace and Security Policies», organized on the eve of the meeting of the WPS National Coordinators Network, co-chaired by Italy and the Philippines. With the participation of representatives of NATO, OSCE, UN and governments, Anatoliy DOSYCH presented Ukraine's key results in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325.

The main message of the speech was that Ukraine is not postponing the issue of gender equality "for after victory". In particular, the Third National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 until 2030, adopted in 2026, was presented, which provides for the equal participation of women and men in making security and defense decisions.

During the Eighth capital-level meeting of the WPS National Coordinators Network on June 9-10, Anatoliy DOSYCH held a number of strategic bilateral consultations:

• Finland, Netherlands, Iceland: prospects for expanding cooperation in promoting women's leadership were discussed.

• Mozambique: African colleagues were very interested in the Ukrainian book «Navigator 1325» — a unique practice of using art to understand Resolution 1325 and its sister resolutions. Mozambique is considering adapting this experience for its educational institutions.

• UN: Further steps were agreed with the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (Pramila PATTEN and expert Alejandro SANCHEZ) on preventing and responding to conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV).

• Japan: Japan’s involvement in Ukraine’s reconstruction and partnership in the fight against CRSV were discussed with Ambassador for WPS Katsuhiko TAKAHASHI.

Separately, the Ukrainian side expressed their gratitude to Italy for its leadership (this year marks the 10th anniversary of the WPS Coordinators Network), and the English-language edition of the «Navigator 1325» was presented to key partners — Luca FRATINI, Lara SCARPITTI and Irene FELLIN.

The third annual meeting of ambassadors and special representatives for WPS issues under the auspices of NATO was held in Naples, where on June 11-12, diplomatic work continued at the meeting of ambassadors and special representatives for WPS issues, which was held under the leadership of the Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General Irene FELLIN.

During the high-level round table, Anatoliy DOSYCH presented the unique domestic experience of integrating the principles of Resolution 1325 directly into the security and defense sector in conditions of a full-scale war.

The main focuses of the discussion:

• The unprecedented contribution of women serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

• Current challenges and needs of the state in repelling russian armed aggression.

• The need to expand female leadership in the defense sector.

The international delegation also visited NATO’s Joint Force Command in Naples, where it was introduced to the mechanisms of gender integration in the Alliance’s operational planning. NATO representatives expressed particular interest in the Ukrainian experience of practical application of Resolution 1325 in conditions of active hostilities.
