Delegation of NUBiP of Ukraine participates in the Joint Polish-Ukrainian Rector's Day

On October 15, 2026, the Joint Polish-Ukrainian Rectors' Day «Cooperation of science and business for the reconstruction, innovation, and competitiveness of Poland and Ukraine» was held in Krakow, at the AGH University of Science and Technology (Stanisław Staszic University of Science and Technology in Krakow). The event was attended by the Rector of NUBiP of Ukraine Vadym TKACHUK and the university president, first deputy chairman of the Union of rectors of higher education institutions of Ukraine Stanislav NIKOLAENKO.

The host party — AGH University of Science and Technology — is one of the ten Polish higher education institutions with the status of research universities. Founded in 1913 as a mining academy, today it is a powerful scientific and educational center with 18 faculties, over 800 laboratories, and a well-developed system of cooperation with industry and business.

The Ukrainian delegation's visit program began with a meeting with the academy's leadership. The university was represented by the vice-rector for cooperation, Professor Rafał WIŚNIEWSKI, who familiarized the guests with the institution's history, the specifics of its organizational structure, and its main areas of activity. He also answered numerous questions from representatives of the Ukrainian rectorate regarding the functioning and development of the Polish university.

The museum exhibition of the academy, particularly the geological collection featuring minerals, rocks, and fossils, made a special impression on the guests. The collection introduces the geological diversity of different corners of the world and is one of the interesting features of the academic environment.

The Joint Polish-Ukrainian Rectors' Day brought together heads of higher education institutions, representatives of government bodies, the scientific community, and the expert environment from both countries. The participants were welcomed by the head of the Polish-Ukrainian project, Professor Jerzy WOŹNICKI, President of the Foundation of Polish rectors; Professor Arkadiusz MĘŻYK, representative of the Conference of rectors of Academic Schools of Poland (KRASP); Mykola TROFYMENKO, deputy minister of education and science of Ukraine; and Petro KULIKOV, chairman of the Union of rectors of higher education institutions of Ukraine.

One of the key topics of the meeting was strengthening cooperation between higher education institutions in Poland and Ukraine, aimed at the reconstruction and post-war recovery of our state. The participants emphasized the importance of combining the educational, scientific, and innovative potential of universities, developing partnerships with businesses, and transforming scientific research into practical solutions for the economy.

The joint rector's day continued with thematic sessions. During the first one, they discussed the results of research on the cooperation between science and business in Poland and Ukraine. The second was dedicated to the strategic priorities of such interaction and the security of scientific research. On the third, special attention was paid to universities and scientific institutions as catalysts for innovation and Ukraine's economic recovery. The participants discussed opportunities for more active involvement of scientific institutions in economic recovery, the development of technological solutions, and deepening cooperation with the business sector.

The final stage was a discussion on how to increase the impact of scientific research on the economic development of Poland and Ukraine. Following its results, representatives of the KRASP and the Union of rectors of higher education institutions of Ukraine delegations reviewed and adopted a Joint resolution, intended to outline further directions of cooperation.
