Masters share their impressions of Production assistant practice

Production assistant practice passed from August 15 to September 2, 2022 on the base the department of Romance and Germanic languages and translation. It is a mandatory component of the training program for specialists of the educational qualification level master. The purpose of the practice is to acquire students' professional skills and abilities for further use in real–world teaching conditions in higher education institutions, to foster the need to systematically update their knowledge.

Students of the ФілАН-21001m group had the opportunity to pass Production assistant practice at the department of Romance and Germanic languages and translation and a number of other departments the faculty of humanities and pedagogy. They conducted lectures and practical classes on "Introduction into translation studies" discipline for 2nd-year students of the specialty "philology" and "Two-way consecutive and simultaneous interpretation" for 2-4-year students of other faculties.
- Alina, did you enjoy being a teacher?
- Yes, definitely yes. Only people with a penchant and love for this occupation may be engaged in education and training. The teachers should pass on their knowledge to others, get involved in the learning process itself and raising a person. Success largely depends on the ability to establish the right relationships with students. This practice has shown me the importance and seriousness of this profession. In my opinion, teaching requires full dedication, complete expenditure of mental, physical and spiritual strength, because a teacher must be a very subtle psychologist in order to be able to recognize the best qualities and inclinations of his students and help them discover them. Therefore, after completing this internship, I strengthened my skills in conducting classes, translating and communicating with students.
- Yulia, did you feel like a lecturer who should convey important information about translation to the audience confidently and with knowledge?
- I delivered a lecture, or rather gave a lecture on simultaneous translation strategies. This type of translation is the most difficult, because the translator literally "translates" simultaneously with the speaker with a delay of several seconds. Although it is very difficult to translate in parallel, the students and I personally received positive impressions from the atmosphere in the classroom, from interesting exercises with sentences, in which compression at certain language levels must be applied during simultaneous translation. We spent a productive time analyzing all translation strategies, learning new vocabulary, and practicing simultaneous translation, thereby improving students knowledge of translation studies and translation practice. I, in turn, improved my knowledge of teaching the discipline, practiced public speaking. I hope that the acquired skills and abilities will be useful to all participants of the educational process in the future.     Interns prepared informative, substantial, and interesting reports on their internship with slides, screenshots, and videos, and developed them independently based on one of the practical and lecture sessions. They will have something to remember in the future regarding their experience, along with their impressions, experiences and expansion of their knowledge and capabilities as teachers.   Alina Cheberyako, Yulia Samoylenko,
