On June 19-20, 2024 the Summer School with international participation "One Health Mosaic" was held at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine. The event was organized within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module "Integration of EU One Health Policy and Framework in Ukraine" (101048229 - EU4OH - ERASMUS-JMO-2021-HEI-TCH-RSCH) in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Ukraine.

During the event preparation phase, we utilised methodological materials developed by foreign partners, including the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota, USA; Lyon Veterinary School (France); and the State Serum Institute in Denmark. These materials have been adapted for use in the context of the event.

"One Health is an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to solving complex problems at the interface between humans, animals, and the environment. The goal of interdisciplinary work is to develop an understanding and appreciation of different points of view focused on a common problem and the impact of this problem on multiple stakeholders.

The summer school brought together students from a variety of specialties, including Veterinary Medicine, Technology of production and processing of livestock products, Public Health, and Hygiene, sanitation and veterinary expertise. The objective of the event was to enhance understanding and perception of the concept of One Health, which considers the multifaceted aspects of the interaction between human, animal, and environmental health.

Over the course of two days, participants engaged in active problem-solving exercises. On the first day, they explored the theoretical aspects of the One Health concept and applied it to the issue of rabies, a zoonotic disease that highlights the complex interactions between humans, animals, and the environment. Using the "group jigsaw" method, students worked on simulated scenarios that demonstrated how the rabies pathogen affects wild, domestic animals and humans and tried to connect the pieces of the rabies "puzzle".

On the second day of the event, organized jointly with the WHO Office in Ukraine, the participants took part in the One Health workshop game developed by the Veterinary School of Lyon (France).
The students who participated in the Summer School noted the benefits of such events and emphasized that the knowledge and skills acquired would help them in their future professional activities and contribute to the effective implementation of the One Health concept in Ukraine.
The completion of the Mosaic of One Health Summer School was an important event that confirmed the need for an interdisciplinary approach to solving complex problems at the interface between humans, animals and the environment. The participants of the event gained valuable experience and knowledge that will contribute to the development of the health system in Ukraine.
