The main damage and threat to the forest, trees, part of trees can be made: weeds, insects, disease, rodents, nematodes, fungi. Master’s students understand features of insects, fungi, rot, viruses or other pathogens. All which were named spoil wood, fruits, leaves and even cause death.
The purpose of study this discipline is to summarize all knowledge about kinds of pests and how to manage them.
The discipline determines main cause of pest appearing. Most plant health problems don’t happen due to biotic factors. There are adverse abiotic factors such as climate, soil, hurricane, snowfall, lightning and drought. Pest management assumes knowledge of the links between biotic, abiotic, anthropogenic factors and pathogen in forest.
The great aim of Pest management is keep pest populations below economic threshold; avoid negative effects on forest, wood and environment.
The Master’s students ready to get know methods of assessments phytosanitary conditions in the forest; methods monitoring and forecasting of development and spreading different type of pests.
Moreover the Master’s students will be able to: make a seasonal and long-term forecasting of the pest numbers; assess the environmental factors that affect on the development of the pest numbers; timely prescribe the sets of preventive measures of forest protection.
