Diana Satsyuk: Summer French-language school in the picturesque Carpathians is both a study and a rest

16 серпня 2019 року

In what cool way to spend the summer? Students of NULES of Ukraine have a great choice and many different opportunities. I would like to share my impressions of one of them.

Parlez-vous français?

I fell in love with French when I first heard it from a senior teacher, Natalia Rudnytska. It was then that I wondered if I would be able to master this melodic language perfectly, so I made the decision and chose it as the second foreign language for my study. I am pleased to have made that choice.

French is not only a language of love and beauty, but it is, along with English, one of the official languages of the UN, UNESCO, the Red Cross and several other international organizations! According to the organization Francophone, today French is the main language of education in 35 countries and, using it, find a common language among themselves 274 million people.

Camp de français en été

Thanks to Natalia Anatoliivna we were fortunate to meet Professor Benjamin Beckner and the French Without Borders Association, which he chairs. In March, Mr. Beckner presented to us a project of an International French-speaking camp for students in the picturesque Carpathians.

Et voilà!

On July 23, the best team of Francophone students and teachers gathered in Verkhovyna. For nine days, we had the great opportunity to improve our French skills by actively communicating with French speakers during general sessions and mini-ateliers, as well as discovering the magic corners of the Carpathians and the local culture. Particularly romantic were the evenings where we shared our impressions and celebrated our victories! Overall, during my internship, I found many new friends with whom I plan to keep in touch.

New friends, an interesting program, a vivid swirl of events, urgency and mobility, new priorities in learning foreign languages are all achievements of the summer French language school. After all, the translator needs to be fluent in foreign language, to know the historical and cultural traditions of the native speakers of this language, to be erudite, to have a good memory, to resist stress, to react quickly, to have analytical skills, to be inquisitive and eloquent. The French without Borders team has sincerely helped us in this, shared our experience, and motivated us to be sociable, purposeful and new. Moreover, they certainly will!
