ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR SIDORUK G.I. READ GUEST ONLINE LECTURE AT Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University

On the 25th of November, associate professor of the department of Romance and-Germanic languages and translation of the NULES of Ukraine delivered a guest on-line lecture for lecturers and students of the department of theory and practice of English translation of Petro Mohyla Chornomorsky National University. The topic of the lecture is "Actual challenges of translation activity in the military sphere". The lecturer paid attention to the work of translators over the military instructions on weapons, delivered by our partners from abroad, indicating that although the work of translators is invisible, still it is extremely important in our victory over the aggressor. Translators are the soldiers of the invisible front, who are not directly involved in active hostilities, but whose contribution to the victory is significant and take indirect part in this cruel and unjust war unleashed by fascist russia. Thanks to Bayraktars, Kirpis, Hymars, Stingers, Atakams and Javelins, Rocketsans, Abrams and F-16 aircraft (successful negotiations are underway for the last three), the Armed Forces of Ukraine are successfully defeating the enemy, bringing victory and the long-awaited peace closer. The speaker dwelt in detail on translation challenges faced by translators in modern conditions of war, such as linguistic, cultural, sectoral and interdisciplinary, specific issues related to specialized content, and problems of untranslatability of military realias. The lecturer gave numerous examples and commented and explained each of them. The students had numerous questions about the specifics of the translation of military terms, the organization of the translation of military instructions, the possibilities of obtaining the education of a military translator, issues of confidentiality of information, to which the speaker provided extensive answers. On the website of the department of theory and practice of English translation of P. Mohyla ChNU published a post of this lecture, an excerpt from which is given below:

"The online meeting was attended by students studying under the educational program "Theory and practice of translation from English and a second foreign language", as well as students of other specialties of the faculty of philology. During the lecture, associate professor Halyna Sydoruk familiarized the students with the challenges faced by translators, in particular military ones, focused on such a concept as translation ethics, and gave examples of "false friends of the translator" in military terminology. After the lecture, students had the opportunity to ask their questions. Thanks to such events, future translators feel the importance and perspective of their chosen profession."

This was our first experience in conducting similar events, and hopefully not the last, as 5-10 more such lectures on current topics are planned for the near future by the instructors of our department for the same specialties in universities in our country and abroad. So we wish inspiration and success to our faculty. The main thing is to win over the enemy, which will allow our dreams and plans to come true without the difficulties and obstacles associated with war.
