History

 The Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology is created by the consolidation of two departments – general zoology and ichthyology, and hydrobiology in the process of reorganization and structure optimization of NULES of Ukraine in 2015. By the results of zoological disciplines separation from the Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology (on the basis of which was created the Department of Animal Biology) it was taken the decision to consolidate the Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology.

The Department of Hydrobiology was created on the basis of the decision of the Academic Council of the University by the rector's order No. 318 of 13.09.2000 on the base of Zooengineering faculty. This is the only Department of such direction among the agricultural universities of Ukraine. In 2001 it was taken the decision on the creation of a new Department of Water bioresources and aquaculture, which consisted of the Department of Hydrobiology and Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology (renewed in 2001).

            Since 2001 for the Department worked Sc.D., Professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, honored pisciculturist of Russia – M.E. Salnikov (ichthyologist-pisciculturist), Sc.D., Professor P.Y. Kilochickiy (zoologist), Sc.D., Professor N.I.Vovk (ecologist, ichthyopathologist), associate professors A.G. Rudnev (entomologist), V.R. Aleksienko (zoologist, pisciculturist), D.V. Lukashov (biologist, zoologist), PhD in Biology and griculture V.M. Logvinenko (biologist), T.C. Zakharova (entomologist), A.V. Fokin (entomologist), V.I.Maltsev (ecologist, hydrobiologist) and N.P. Sviridenko (livestock technologist, breeding of farm animals).
