Pilot Training within the project New Skills for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings

One of the key prerequisites for the successful implementation of this strategy is the availability of a sufficient number of professionals capable of applying modern energy-efficient technologies and solutions in the field of renewable energy. However, already today both Ukraine and EU countries are experiencing a shortage of qualified specialists able to work in the design, installation, and operation of nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB).

Addressing this skills gap is the objective of the LIFE-CET-NS4nZEBs project “New Skills for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings”, which has been implemented for the second consecutive year by the team of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy, Automation and Energy Saving of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine.

Within the framework of the Project, five sets of comprehensive modular training materials have been developed for different professional groups: architects, electrical engineers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) specialists, installers of energy-efficient equipment, and technical supervision specialists.

All materials have been developed in accordance with European requirements and are available in digital format on a dedicated online platform.

To date, the pilot training has been successfully completed: eight Ukrainian specialists have fulfilled all the requirements and obtained professional qualification certificates recognized across the labor markets of all European Union countries. Among them are academic staff members of the Institute of Energy, Automation and Energy Saving — Viktor Kaplun, Yevhenii Antypov, Svitlana Makarevych, Vitalii Savchenko, and Olena Shelimanova; PhD student Yurii Oksymets; master’s student Andrii Kobzin; as well as Dmytro Biletskyi, a specialist from the Center for Efficient Energy Use.

The acquired competencies will enable the trainers to actively contribute to the further implementation of the Project as early as March 2026 by delivering training courses and preparing 60 new certified specialists in the field of nearly zero-energy buildings with minimal greenhouse gas emissions.

The NS4nZEBs Project demonstrates the important role of Ukrainian higher education institutions in advancing modern European energy policy and confirms the strong potential of international cooperation in shaping new professional competencies for a sustainable future.

In March 2026, the qualified trainers will conduct training activities and prepare a total of 60 new specialists in the operation of nearly zero-energy buildings with minimal greenhouse gas emissions.
