Department History

The department began with the Chair of Zootechnics of the Agricultural Department of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, organised in 1898 by Professor M.P. Chirvinsky. In 1953, the Department of Special Zootechnics was separated from it as an independent department, on the basis of which the Department of Animal Husbandry and Equine Science was established in 1969. In 1988, the department was renamed the Department of Milk and Beef Production Technology, and in 2013 the Department of Milk, Beef and Pork Production Technology. In 2015, the department was renamed the Department of Milk and Meat Production Technologies.

 The department was headed by well-known scientists (from left to right): Professors M.M. Kolesnyk (1953-1965), K.B. Svechyn (1965-1978), B.M. Hopka (1978-1990), Academician G.O. Bogdanov (1990-2000), Professor V.I. Kostenko (2000-2001). Since 2002, the department has been headed by Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor A. Ugnivenko.

The department has been staffed by: Doctors of Sciences I.F. Shulzhenko, P.V. Korchovyi, V.P. Demianchuk, M.I. Shevchenko, V.O. Pabat, Y.Z. Siratskyi, O.T. Busenko, M.M. Lutsenko, Yu. Zasukha, V.I. Sheremeta, I.V. Goncharenko, L.A. Koropets; Associate Professors D.K. Mikhnovskyi, V.A. Nestervodskyi, V.G. Solomatina, O.I. Koval, N.M. Lomova, N.T. Danilevska, A.I. Srivov, A.Y. Mankovskyi, G.P. Bondarenko, N.V. Kos, M.I. Matsenko, S.M. Hryshchenko. At its current stage of development, the department's primary focus is on training Doctors of Science, PhD candidates, and highly qualified specialists at the Bachelor's and Master's levels for careers in milk and beef production enterprises, scientific research, and consulting.
