The Department of Heat and Power Engineering traces its pedigree from the Department of Heat Engineering, Hydraulics and Wind Turbines, founded in 1952 as part of the Kiev Agricultural Institute. In connection with the beginning of the training of engineers in the new specialty "Energy supply of agriculture" in 1990, the Department of Heat and Power Engineering was established (headed by Associate Professor M.M. Nedelko). During 1991-2003, the Department of Heat and Power Engineering was headed by Associate Professor V.O. Lazorenko. From 2003 to 2010, the head of the department was Associate Professor A.V. Mishchenko, from 2010 to 2021 – Senior Research Scientist, Doctor of Technical Sciences V.G. Gorobets. Since July 2021, the Department of Heat and Power Engineering is headed by Associate Professor Ie.O. Antipov.

 In recent years, the administration of the University, the Institute and the staff of the Department have made significant efforts to strengthen its material and technical base. The above-mentioned contributed to the improvement of the position of the Department, which became the leader among related Departments in the preparation of Bachelors and Masters in the specialty "Energy of agricultural production". Since 2019, the Department has been training specialists in the Specialty 144 "Heat and Power Engineering".
