Field Day 2025 was held at the Agronomic Experimental Station of NULES of Ukraine

June 27, 2025

The Dushechkin Department of Agrochemistry and Quality of Crop Production is conducting a long-term stationary field experiment on meadow-chernozem soil in the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine.

"The aim of our research is to establish the effectiveness of different levels of mineral fertilisation (minimum, medium, optimal), taking into account meso- and microelements, on crop yields and soil agrochemical conditions," says the head of the department, Dmytro LITVINOV. "The crop rotation includes soybeans, sunflower, winter wheat, corn, barley, peas and clover, which allows us to study the response of different types of crops to agrochemical load.
The experiments include agrochemical soil monitoring to assess the content of macro- and microelements, the degree of saturation with bases, acid-base reaction, and humus. To maintain the accuracy of the research, we use elements of precision farming, including a zonal approach to fertilisation. We also carry out remote satellite monitoring of crops using NDVI indices and a digital precision farming platform.

The crop rotation structure includes typical regional crops such as winter wheat, barley, corn, sunflower, peas, soybeans, and clover, which allows us to assess nitrogen fixation and phytosanitary effects.
For 2024-2028, we are implementing a scientifically based crop rotation with alternating cereals, industrial and legumes on 10 fields. This helps to ensure the environmental sustainability of land use and adaptation of nutrition systems. The agrochemical parameters of the soil, yield, product quality and agroeconomic efficiency of fertilisation are studied.
