SCIENTIFIC SCHOOLS

Scientific School of Professor Nikolskyi V.V. Year of foundation - 1956.
The school was founded on the basis of the Department of Microbiology of the Kyiv Veterinary Institute (now the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Biotechnology of the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine), the scientific direction of whose employees concerned the study of etiology, development of means and methods of diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases of animals.
The founder of the school is Volodymyr Vasylovich Nikolskyi (1906 - 1982), doctor of veterinary sciences, professor, honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine, knight of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and two orders of the "Badge of Honor", awarded with many medals, author of more than 110 scientific articles, four monographs, prepared four doctors and 16 candidates of sciences. Professor Nikolsky initiated a new aspect of the study of infectious pathology of animals - the study of the nature of infectious diseases under the condition of a deep analysis of the immunological reactivity of the animal organism, in connection with environmental factors affecting it. The strategy of these studies is outlined in the monographs published by him "Viral gastroenteritis of pigs", 1964; "Infection and Immunity of Farm Animals", 1974, etc. The defined direction remains strategically unchanged to this day. Students and followers continue the implementation of the indicated scientific direction, using modern methodological achievements of biology and veterinary medicine.
The scientific direction of the school is the study of infectious animal pathology in the aspect of knowledge of etiology, pathogenesis, development of means and methods of diagnosis and prevention of infectious animal diseases and obtaining high-quality and safe livestock products.
Student of V.V. Nikolskyi - doctor of veterinary sciences, professor V.A. Bortnichuk. During 1979-1984 he headed the work of the team of the department of microbiology and virology, researched the etiopathogenesis of chlamydial infection in animals, developed means of laboratory diagnosis and methods of chlamydia prevention, studied the genesis of intestinal of dysbacteriosis, author of the monographs "Enzootic Pneumonia of Pigs" (1974) and "Animal Chlamydia" (1991) and three textbooks for medical professionals and about 150 scientific articles. Under his scientific supervision, a doctorate (V.Y. Lyubetsky) and four candidate theses (M.S. Pavlenko, O.M. Nevolko, N.G. Sorokina, V.Y. Sadovsky) were defended.
Students of V.V. Nikolskyi, professors Revenko I.P. and Lytvyn V.P., having completed an important cycle of scientific works under his leadership on the basis of the Department of Microbiology and Virology, continued the study of infectious pathology of animals, heading the Department of Epizootology. The scientific work of Professor Revenko I.P. related to the biology and pathogenic properties of the causative agent of swine distemper, the phenomena of bacteriophagy.
The scientific work of Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine Lytvyn V.P. was aimed at studying the natural resistance and immunological reactivity of the animal organism, the etiology and pathogenesis of infectious diseases of animals, the development of means and methods of their prevention and therapy. As a result of his research, he developed more than 20 effective drugs for the needs of veterinary medicine. Lytvyn V.P. published more than 400 works, including textbooks for universities, 15 study guides, monographs and reference books, prepared one doctor of science and 9 candidates of science.
Doctor of Biological Sciences, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine Professor S.M. Scientific School of the Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor V.V. Nedosyekov Year of establishment - 2015.
In 2015, the founder and head of the scientific school - Vitaly Volodymyrovych Nedosyekov (born in 1972) formed a new rather young scientific school as a system of scientific views within the framework of the concept "One world - one health".
Nedosekov V.V. is a ranking scientist in the infectious pathology of animals (Google Scholar – 10, RINC – 5, SCOPUS – 3)
According to the results of scientific research Nedosyekova V.V. 312 scientific works were prepared and published, including 12 monographs, 27 patents and 15 methodological recommendations.
Over the course of 10 years, Nedosekov trained 2 doctors of veterinary sciences, 8 candidates of veterinary sciences, and currently 2 doctoral students and 4 post-graduate students are being trained under her supervision
The scientific significance of the achievements is confirmed by the repeated awarding of medals "Laureate of the VVC" and the award of the Laureate of the Government Prize in the field of science and technology (2001).
Research directions of the scientific school: development of preventive and diagnostic means against infectious diseases of animals; development of monitoring and control systems for economically significant animal diseases; Development of modern approaches and implementation of biosecurity and animal welfare.
The main achievements of the scientific school.
The first direction of research was the fatal rabies virus. A collection of street isolates of the rabies virus (1,300 isolates) was created and the conditions for their preparation for research and storage were optimized, and a study of the molecular genetic and biological characteristics of the street isolates of the rabies virus in Ukraine was conducted.
For the control of rabies vaccines, a unified "System for evaluating the immunogenic activity of inactivated rabies vaccines" was developed, which includes the following methods: "peripheral" test, "serological" method, NIH test with street isolates of rabies virus and NIH test on animals with induced immunosuppression
In the future, the emphasis of the work was focused on companion animals. The nosological profile is established and the structure of diseases in the infectious pathology of dogs and cats is shown (15 nosounits in dogs and 13 in cats). Developed technologies for obtaining specific globulins for low pathogens (chlamydia, parvovirus, calicivirus, etc.).
A significant share of research was devoted to vaccinology, both the development of anti-rabies vaccines (which accounted for up to 50% of the volume of vaccines in Ukraine) and vaccines against leptospirosis, infectious rhinotracheitis of cattle, etc.
It is characteristic that anti-rabies vaccination was carried out not only for domestic and wild animals, but also for the first time in Ukraine, a method of immunizing homeless dogs was developed.
Recent studies are devoted to the analysis of the epizootic situation of animal rabies in Ukraine and the spatio-temporal characteristics of rabies epizootics in Ukraine.
In 2020, research focused on the latest approaches and applications of GIS technologies and plasmon resonance.
Nedosekov V.V. worked for a long time at the All-Union Research Institute of Veterinary Microbiology and Virology (Pokrov, Russian Federation), was on internship in many countries and institutions and has relevant experience in biosafety, diagnostics (molecular genetic research), prevention (development of inactivated and attenuated vaccines) yes control of infectious animal diseases, which made it possible to develop drugs and implement them in the veterinary practice of Ukraine.
In addition to traditional areas, V.V. Nedosekov is the organizer in Ukraine of the scientific direction of animal welfare research and the implementation of modern approaches in practice.
Over the past 25 years, scientific directions have been adjusted in connection with the emergence of new challenges, but throughout the time, the aspects of infectious animal pathology that formed in biosecurity were preserved and supplemented by a new direction of animal welfare.
