The  department is established in 1920. Its first head was professor, D.O. Kalkatin. In different years the department was lead by professor L.S. Gogel, associated professors K.P. Pocheguyev, O.S. Korotych, K.I. Dmitriyev, K.P. Nastenko, A.F. Yevtushenko, professors O.L. Skomorochov, O.K. Scherbuna, I.P. Revenko, V.P. Onufriyev, V.P. Lytvyn, , associated professor V.P. Postoy, doctor of veterinary sciences, associated professor T.V. Mazur. In 2009 the reorganization took place, and as a result, the department of organization, economics and marketing in veterinary medicine, epizootology and infectious diseases were united into one structure. Now, the head of department is doctor of veterinary sciences, professor, Laureate of the Russian Federation in Research and Engineering V.V. Nedosekov.

The department members are doctor of veterinary sciences, Laureate of Ukrainian state premium in Research and Engineering, Honored Worker of Science of Ukraine professor, Laureate of the Russian Federation in Science and Engineering V.V. Nedosekov, doctor of veterinary sciences,  associated professors of veterinary sciences, associated professors V.V. Polischuk, V.M. Lytvynenko, N.G. Sorokina, V.A. Sytnyk, O.G. Martynyuk, V.M. Shevchuk, assistants M.O. Zhukovskiy.

Department of epizootology and veterinary business organization has a range of scientific directions, which are united in a program of infectious animal diseases liquidation and prophylaxis.

Members of department are successfully working on the solution of veterinary medicine problems, elaboration of conceptual approaches to studying of epizootic process dynamics in infectious and invasive diseases and animal epidemic countermeasures realization. The department has significant improvements in acute gastric and respiratory diseases prophylaxis in newborn animals and treatment of animals in case they appear.

The main scientific directions of department are: conceptual approach elaboration for study of epizootic process dynamics in infectious and invasive diseases and animal epidemic countermeasures realization; researches of epizootic process specialties in acute and chronic diseases of animals; preservation of farm animals and poultry young stock; development and implementation in practice of new biological antimicrobials and disinfectants; new methods of group prophylaxis and therapy of acute gastric and respiratory diseases with the use of surfactants (etonium, tionium, piperedon, dodetson), preparations of bioxyde metal silicate compounds (vetazol, vodozol, sanapin), chelators (envet-1, envet-2), probiotics (bacterin SL, sporolact, monosporine PK, veterinary bifidobacterine, vitamins (germogran, aquagram); informatics and informational technologies in veterinary medicine; honey bee diseases.

The department has postgraduate and doctoral studies by the specialty of 16.00.03 – veterinary microbiology, immunology, epizootology and infectious diseases.

Now, elaborations of department are widely used in production. They include: new antimicrobial, biological drugs and desinfectants – etonium, tionium, dodetson; probiotics – bacterin-SL, monosporine-PK and sporalact; new bioxyde metal silicate compounds - vetozol, vodozol, sanapin, chelators - Envet-1, Envet-2. Obtained 15 copyright certificates and 7 patents, 2 licenses for realization of USSR (coniferous chlorophyll-carotene paste) and protephlazyd.

Successful pedagogical work and science achievements for last twenty years are reflected in 3 textbooks, 9 books, 11 monographs, 5 manuals, 19 certificates of authorship and patents and more than 1000 articles and abstracts.
