Educational, Research, and Production Laboratory for Automated Land Resource Management Systems

The National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine operates the “Automated Land Resource Management Systems” Educational, Research, and Production Laboratory, which focuses on organizing educational, research, and production activities in the context of applying modern technologies to land resource management

The laboratory’s main areas of activity are:

bringing together academic and research staff, scientific and technical personnel, doctoral candidates, graduate students, undergraduates, and hired specialists to implement scientific developments and the laboratory’s own scientific and practical experience in automated land resource management systems into production and business;

ensuring the collection, systematization, analysis, and processing of analytical and geospatial information about land;

improving the practical training of students;

providing professional development for university staff in industrial settings;

conducting joint activities with agribusiness.

The priority areas of activity are:

the field of geodesy and land management;

providing agribusiness with necessary planning and cartographic materials and digital terrain models;

the economics of natural resource use;

ecology and environmental protection;

GIS technologies, including those related to water, forestry, construction, and other sectors;

providing scientific, consulting, advisory, and other services regarding land relations, land management, GIS technologies, and more;

organizing conferences, seminars, and professional development courses;

training UAV operators.

Curriculum for the training course on quadcopter operation and pilot training at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine

The course program is divided into 2 parts:

THEORETICAL (20 hours) and PRACTICAL (14 hours)

Practical photogrammetry and remote sensing training using the DJI Phantom 4 pro quadcopter

During the study, we will analyze the main concepts:

1. Classification of UAVs. Purpose, features of application (2 hours);

2. Legislation of Ukraine when using UAVs (2 hours);

3. Technical characteristics of aircraft and rules of safe operation (4 hours);

4. Theoretical foundations of photogrammetry and features of aerial photography of the earth's surface (2 hours);

5. Comparison of the complex of works during aerial topographic photography and photography using drones (4 hours);

6. Survey materials and methods of obtaining them (6 hours); Practical part: 1. Structure of a quadcopter. Preparation for flight (2 hours); 2. Control of a quadcopter, formation of a task for aerial photography (2 hours); 3. Manual and semi-automatic flight (2 hours); 4. Manual and automatic takeoff and landing, emergency landing (2 hours); 5. Flight according to given GPS coordinates (2 hours); 6. Maneuvering and avoiding obstacles (2 hours);

7. Basics of photo and video shooting with UAVs (2 hours).

The course is designed for a group of 5-10 people. The course duration is 34 hours, 17 training days. Each training day includes one hour of lectures and practical classes.
