Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Animal Health
In July 2024, a new department was established through the merger of the Department of Epizootology, Microbiology and Virology with the Department of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine.
The newly formed department was named the Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Animal Health. The reorganized department is headed by Associate Professor Volodymyr Melnyk, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences.
The newly established department integrates three major academic and research areas that address issues of infectious animal diseases and provide the teaching education disciplines for students from the second to the sixth year of study.
The main objective of the department is to provide students with a strong foundation in the fundamental and applied aspects of microbiology, virology and biotechnology, epizootology, and parasitology; to train highly qualified specialists at the levels of Master’s, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), and Doctor of Science; to conduct research on current issues of animal health, quality and safety of animal products, and to promote the implementation of innovative technologies in veterinary medicine and agriculture.
The strategic priorities of the department include the organization and delivery of educational, research, and outreach activities at a modern level; addressing pressing challenges in veterinary medicine; and introducing advanced technologies and scientific innovations into programs aimed at the prevention and eradication of infectious animal diseases.
