General Assembly of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education: Participation of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of NUBiP of Ukraine

Supported by the Rector, President, and the entire leadership of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP), a delegation from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, led by Dean Oleksandr VALCHUK, participated in the 39th General Assembly of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) on May 28–29.

The delegation included Professor Maryna HALAT, responsible for the Faculty’s EAEVE accreditation process; Oleksandr MARTYNIUK, Associate Professor of the Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Animal Health; and Mariia HALABURDA, Associate Professor of the Prof. A.K. Skorokhodko Department of Animal Hygiene and Food Safety and Coordinator of International Programs.

The event was hosted by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain), an institution with which the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine shares a history of cooperation and a successfully completed joint COST project.

Ukrainian youth deserve equal rights to access top-tier European education. For this reason — having achieved EAEVE Associate Member status for the Faculty at last year's 38th General Assembly and the right to attain full membership in 2028 — the faculty representatives, under the Dean's leadership, attended this year's General Assembly. The goals were to present the Faculty and study the best practices of training veterinary doctors at other European veterinary faculties on the path to NUBiP's own accreditation.

During this year's General Assembly, delegates approved the EAEVE President's report and the financial plan for the upcoming year, elected committee representatives, and engaged with a comprehensive educational program. The program covered specific aspects of evaluating veterinary faculties, the integration of artificial intelligence in education, and the best practices for ensuring "Day-One Competences." It also explored digital tools developed by universities and methods for their dissemination, as well as strategies to improve student well-being and self-confidence, among many other compelling topics.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, the delegation of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine had the opportunity to communicate directly with European deans and EAEVE experts to map out successful steps for the next stage of the accreditation process.

We congratulate the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine on its Associate Membership in the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education and wish them every success on the journey toward full accreditation and integration into the European veterinary education space!
