History
Department of technologies in poultry, pig and sheep breeding by subject category of educational and research work related to the establishment of the agricultural department of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and the Department of General Animal Science in 1898.
Well-known scientists, who are mainly conducted research on pigs, sheep, rabbits and other species, worked at this department at different times and in the various education units.
Professor M.P.Chirvinsky, which is a classic of Zooengineering science, was the first dean of the agricultural department of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute and founder of our university, conducted research on sheep and pigs, sheep farm founded and assembled a collection of astrakhans. Professor F.O.Yurkiv was a lecture of sheep breeding, Professor L.I.Senchenko – of pig breeding, Professor V.V.Bukraba - of rabbit breeding, associate professor M.F.Startsev - of poultry.
In 1922, the agricultural department of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute was transformed into the Kyiv Institute of Agriculture. In 1969, during the reorganization of the Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Agriculture Department of Special Animal Science was established. This department was headed by Professor M.M.Kolesnik, and later, by Professor K.B.Svechin.
In 1969, the Department of Special Animal Breeding was divided into two departments, one of which was a department of pigs, sheep and poultry production technologies. For 20 years, the department was headed by Professor D.Ya. Vasilenko. In 1988 Department of beekeeping was established, 1995 - Department of poultry as independent units Faculty of Animal Science.
Poultry department is headed by Professor V.P. Boroday (1995 - 2011), N.P. Ponomarenko (2011-2014). Department of Technology of production of pigs and sheep led by Professor M.V.Shtompel (1990-2003), Associate Professor V.M.Voloschuk (2003-2004), professor Yu.V.Zasuha (2004-20013).
In 2007, on the specifics of academic disciplines department was renamed into the Department of technology, economics and management in livestock. By order of the Rector of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine № 268 from 03.15.2013 due to the union of two departments - Poultry and Technology, economics and management in livestock was formed Department of poultry and small livestock. 12.25.2014, according to the order № 1446, it was renamed into the Department of technologies in poultry, pig and sheep breeding.

Povoznіkov; Assistant Professors – D.K. Mіhnovsky, Yu.O. Putyatіn, A.І. Vertіychuk, O.V. Tsiganyuk, І.L. Pluzhenko, L.M. Tsitsyursky, M.І. Matsenko, І.G. Bagrіy, G.S. Teslenko, V.M. Tkachuk, L.V. Mazurenko, M.Ya. Zhinchin-Chopenko, N.V. Luk'yanchuk; Assistance lecturers – O.M. Grab, І.F. Dolya, V.І. Stashenko, G.S. Mikhaylenko, Yu.V. Nagaevich other. Now, the department has professors – Yu.V. Zasuha, V.P. Boroday, N.P. Ponomarenko, V.M. Turinsky; Assistant Professors – V.V.Melnik, M.І. Lіhter, N.V.Bogdanova , S.M. Bazivolyak , R.M. Umanets, S.M. Gryshchenko; Heads of laboratory – A.A. Zadorozhnіy, L.V. Stetsenko.
Subjects of staff research staff - the development of new technological solutions in the production of animal products and animal feed, feeding methods, management and use of animals, breeding and selection of farm animals.
Staff of the department have important scientific achievements. They created Ukrainian girskokarpatska breed of sheep, Tavriyskiy type and six stud lines Askaniyan fine-wool sheep, developed and implemented three programs of their selection. Established non-traditional patterns of variability in populations of Merino: the stability of all forms of variability, regardless of the term of the selection, the lack of statistical interaction "genotype-environment", an independent predictor of variation from the average level of productivity. Specialists of the department (Yu.V.Zasuha, V.P. Boroday, V.M. Turinsky, N.P.Ponomarenko, M.І. Lіhter, V.V.Melnik and others) have copyright certificates and patents for new feed and technological methods in animal husbandry and breeding achievements.
The department trains students EQL "Bachelor" and "Magіstr" stationary and correspondence departments of various faculties of the University: Faculty of Livestock Raising and Water Bioresources, Faculty of Food Technology and Quality Control of Agricultural Products, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Education and Research Institute of Energetic, Automation and Energy Efficiency, Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Park Gardening, Education and Research Institute of Continuing Education. The department taught discipline: technology of production of pig breeding, technology of production of sheep, technology of production of rabbit breeding and fur animal farming, technology of production of poultry products, technology of production, processing and storage of agricultural products, basics of animal husbandry, information systems and software in livestock, biology of pigs, reproduction and breeding pigs, slaughter pigs and pork products processing, industrial technology of the production of pork products, technological equipment for pig farms, biology of sheep, reproduction and breeding sheeps, sheep slaughter and processing of sheep, industrial production technology of sheep, technological equipment for sheep farms, incubation of eggs of poultry with the basics of embryology, biology of poultry, production of food eggs, production of poultry meat, poultry feeding, breeding poultry, human resource management, information technology in animal husbandry, agribusiness organization.
At the department each year more than 40 students performed graduate work on topical issues of modern animal husbandry. Staff of the department develop business plans for agricultural enterprises of different ownership forms, and provide advice on management in livestock. Staff of the department participated in the preparation of more than 32 thousand specialists. Staff of the department published more than 900 scientific works, including 12 textbooks, 19 manuals, over 40 methodical developments, 9 types of programs. Received more than 60 patents for invention.
