Appeal of the rector Stanislav Nikolaenko in connection with the introduction of quarantine

March 15, 2020

 Dear university colleagues, professors, co-workers, students, residents of Holosiivo!

     I would like to inform you that on the basis of the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the executive body of the Kyiv City Council, the NULES of Ukraine Rectorate on March 11, 2020 made important decisions to prevent the spread of new coronary virus infection (COVID-19) and introduce restrictive measures in the campus and the university on the whole.

     I, as Rector of NULES of Ukraine, want to share with you - professors, co-workers, students and residents of the Holosiivo micro-district additional and critical information that is of concern to us all.

     As we know, communities around the world are facing unprecedented challenges in condition and health care as the coronavirus continues to spread. According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as of the morning of March 11, 2020, 114219 cases of COVID-19 were reported worldwide. Of these, 4024 ended in death. Out of China, 33,295 cases were recorded in 103 countries, territories, and regions.
     Our current common goal is to take the necessary, proactive steps to counter this health threat and manage our life risks.

     In view of the above, the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, in consultation with the community, in response to the global threat of coronary virus infection in Ukraine, announces the transition of the educational process during the period from March 12 to April 3, 2020 for distance learning of students, trainees, PhD students, doctorants, while planning to resume full-time study on Monday, April 6, 2020.

      During these exceptional events, the University will remain open to the administration, faculty and staff (if necessary).

     However, we consider it necessary to take the advice of central executive authorities in Ukraine, our foreign partners, the media and clarify additional details of our actions:

  • we initiate functioning of the operations center headed by the vice-rector for training and educational Work (S.M. Kvasha) with the functions of full and prompt monitoring of the situation throughout the University;
  • the Office reaffirms the importance of continuity in the organization of the educational process as a critical component for the success of our students' training. Therefore, all scheduled, according to the individualized curriculum, seminars and laboratory work will be provided to students remotely;
  • during this three-week quarantine, we recommend that students: first, make the most of the opportunity to be close to their parents and help them explain the restrictive measures; secondly, while staying in a hostel, observe all rules defined internally, limit the access to other hostels and rooms as much as possible, and third, constantly stay remotely in the educational process through all available information channels;
  • common and general task - to minimize your movement in all places of residence, both with parents, friends, workplaces and hostels;
  • we also inform that the campus dining hall will provide food services only on the ground floor and in the building No.3, along with other shopping establishments, including cafes, mobile cafes and a grocery store in the territory of the university;
  • all events and activities planned by the departments, teaching staff and students at the university, such as scientific conferences, meetings of student organizations, will be postponed/canceled and may commence no earlier than April 6, 2020. For additional questions, contact the directors of institutes, deans of faculties, the student organization of the university. This ban applies to all other places, including meetings in places that are not the territory of the university, but where the teaching staff, c0-workers, students are located

     It has become clear today that the best mechanism for preventing the spread of infection is an individual social distance, and unfortunately, it is very difficult in a university setting. We fully understand that these changes will lead to disruptions in daily life, so we urge you to be mutually responsible to yourselves, your family, friends, and team members.

    We also know that you have specific questions about how this ongoing situation will affect social communications, training, nutrition, housing, and other factors in the coming weeks. I urge you to interact with the operations center, those who are on duty in the university and dormitories, the training buildings and through the University sites (use tel.: 044 5278833, 044 5278242, 044 5278411).

     From the university's website (nubip.edu.ua), you will also be able to access critical information regarding student needs online and guidance for faculty and staff.

Regards,
Rector of NULES of Ukraine Stanislav Nikolaenko
