July 18, 2015

Within the visit to Georgia the University delegation met with the leadership of the Georgian Technical University. GTU rector professor Archil Pranhishvili and a head of international relations office Otar Zumburidze told about the history of their university and its modern structure.

Today it comprises 10 departments, including the newly created Department of Agriculture, which has become a response to reforms in education and science of Georgia. Ten years ago the traditional Agricultural University was privatized and now only 24 students are studying in it. Agrarian University then received all research institutes of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia, which practically do not exist today any more. About 30 people are employed in the Academy. This is a lesson for us.

650 students study at the agricultural department of GTU in eight specialties: animal husbandry, agronomy, soils and water resources management in agribusiness, food technologies, forestry, farming and agro-engineering.

NULES rector Stanislav Nikolaenko acquainted Georgian colleagues with the structure and main objectives of our University, called for the development of cooperation.

During familiarization with a campus Archil Pranhishvili showed the guests the university assembly hall and library, its fund having more than 2.5 million, including 400 thousand in electronic form, copies of educational and scientific literature.

Particular attention of visitors was drawn to a selection of more than 100 thousand copies of an American publishing house Nova, where the most recent scientific and educational publications on all spheres of knowledge are concentrated. It is constantly updated with the support of the Georgian diaspora in the US.

GTU rector urged the Ukrainian side to be very cautious in reforming education by the recipe of the Western guides that can lead to complete loss of the university potential.

The meeting ended in signing the cooperation agreement between the universities.
