Discussion of the results of the project "English for Universities" at the Humanities and Pedagogical Faculty

On October 12, 2017, on the basis of the Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogy, a scientific and methodological seminar was held on the results of the project "English for Universities", conducted under the auspices of the British Council in Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for teachers of foreign languages. Undeniable relevance and value of the seminar organized by the scientific and pedagogical staff of the humanities and pedagogical faculty is due to its focus on the awareness of the students and teachers of the university of the necessity and importance of improving the quality of studying and teaching English in universities of Ukraine.

During the seminar, teachers of the Romanic and Germanic Languages and Translation department, English philology and English for technical and agrobiological specialties took an active part in discussing the results of the project "English for Universities" and the publication "Internationalization of Ukrainian Universities in the English Language". With the development of economic, political and cultural relations between Ukraine and other European countries there were favorable conditions for the exchange of students, the organization of joint research in various fields, deepening of international cooperation, the expansion of the participation of educational institutions, scientists, teachers and students in projects of international organizations and communities.

In view of this it is quite clear that right now the social order places new demands on the educational process of higher educational institutions, the purpose of which is the formation and development of a creative, socially adapted person who fluently speaks a foreign language and capable of interaction with native speakers of different languages. It is well known that the study of a foreign language in modern higher education institutions has a certain specificity, in particular, the lack of credits allocated by study programs to study this discipline; different level of students' training; the content of the training material, which does not take into account previous experience of students, their training needs and the final results. That is why providing a high level of motivation for learning a foreign language for students requires the use of such forms, methods and means of training that ensure the effective mastery of students' knowledge and skills in a foreign language to identify their autonomy, initiative and creativity.
