A graduate of the University of Florida with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Forest Production Ecology (2010), a Master's Degree in Forest Regeneration from Oregon State University (1993) and a Bachelor's Degree in Forest Resources Production Management from the University of Alberta (1991). Since 2025, an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Alberta and since 2023, the Co-founder and Executive Director of Forest Release, an International NGO humanitarian aid organization supporting forestry in Ukraine. He held the position of Director of the Forest Growth Organization of Western Canada (FGrOW) from 2020 to 2023 in Alberta, Canada. From 2011 to 2019, he worked with the Cooperative Forest Research Unit (CFRU) at the University of Maine, USA in various roles.
The author of over 25 scientific articles, reviews and book chapters, Brian's research interests include: Silviculture, forest production ecology and management, quantitative stand dynamics, genotype by environment interactions, mixed species management, forest operations, remote sensing, growth & yield modelling, forest resilience and sustainability, climate change adaptation, bio-economy, forest health and pathology, competitive mechanisms, wood quality, and nutrition.
His role is to actively promote the University's involvement in international programs through the International Projects Office.
