Online Kick-off Meeting of the Research Cooperation Project took place
On June 4, оnline Kick-off Meeting of the Research Cooperation Project "Transformation of pine forests to a close-to nature forest management in Ukraine and with special consideration of resilience to fire and climate extremes such as drought" took place.
The project "Transformation of pine forests to a close-to nature forest management in Ukraine and with special consideration of resilience to fire and climate extremes such as drought" is a cooperative research and development project by the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) (Eberswalde, Germany), the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC) (Freiburg, Germany), the Ukrainian National Forestry University (UNFU) (Lviv, Ukraine) and the Regional Eastern Europe Fire Monitoring Center (REEFMC) (Kyiv, Ukraine). By decision of the German Bundestag the project is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture and has a two-years project duration (1 May 2020 to 30 April 2022).
The meeting was attended by the Director the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC) - Prof. Johann Georg Goldammer, Head of the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE) - Mr. Benjamin Poscher, representatives of the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) - Prof. Dr. Peter Spathelf, Mr. Felipe de Miguel Diez, Dr. Caroline Schleier, Head of the Regional Eastern Europe Fire Monitoring Center (REEFMC) - Prof. Dr. Sergiy Zibtsev, and REEFMC staff Dr. Oleksandr Soshenskii, Dr. Vasyl Gumeniuk, representative of the Ukrainian National Forestry University (UNFU) - Prof. Dr. Vasyl Lavnyy, Deputy director of the Lviv Forestry Enterprise - Mr. Roman Koval, Deputy director of the Stradch Forestry Training Enterprise - Mr. Volodymyr Yakhnytskyy, Director of the Oster Military Forestry Enterprise - Mr. Volodymyr Braiko, and Deputy Director for Research of the Boyarka Forest Experimental Station - Dr. Olexandr Melnyk.
The project participants discussed the objectives of the project, field implementation and involvement of partner institutions, setting up the agenda for field work and meetings.
