The department has a unique in Ukraine Soil Museum. M. M. Godlina. The history of the Museum of Soils begins in 1922 with the founding of the Department of Soil Science, on which the Museum of Soil Science and Geology was organized. The Museum collected samples of geological rocks and minerals, monoliths of soils of Ukraine, Central Asia, Western Siberia and other regions of the USSR. The exposition of the Museum provided theoretical and practical training of specialists in agriculture and forestry, as well as allowed to conduct scientific, educational-methodical and cultural-educational work.
In 1929, the department was located in the newly built first building (now the fourth) of the Kyiv Agricultural Institute, where a large lecture hall was allocated for the Museum. The exposition consisted of about 100 soil monoliths at that time.
During the World War II, a significant part of the exhibits of the Museum was lost and the staff of the department, after returning in 1944 from the evacuation from Almaty, took up its restoration.

Godlina and A. And. Zrazhevskyi was selected monoliths, and the exposition of the Museum was replenished with exhibits of soils of virgin lands from different regions of Ukraine, and consisted of about 200 varieties of soils.
In the 70's and 90's. The 20th century was carried out periodic renewal of soil monoliths and samples of soil-forming geological rocks.
In 2005, in connection with the VII Congress of Soil Scientists and Agrochemists of Ukraine, the department moved to the building No. 2, where larger areas were allocated to the Museum, and the exposition of more than 200 exhibits was placed according to the project of designers.
