An open online lecture on soil science for freshmen-agronomists

On February 4, 2026, an open lecture by Associate Professor of the Department of Soil Science and Soil Protection named after prof. was held online. M.K. Shikula Kateryna KARABACH in the discipline "Soil Science with the Basics of Geology" for 1st year students of the OS "Bachelor" specialty H1 "Agronomy".

The lecture was devoted to the formation of soil science as an independent scientific field, the main stages of its development, as well as the role of prominent scientists in the formation of modern ideas about the soil as a natural body. The students of the lecture were 86 students together with the teachers of the department, which testifies to the high level of interest in the topic and discipline in general.

During the lesson, the method of reflexive learning was used, which involves the involvement of students in self-assessment of the results of educational activities. This is a method when students do not just listen to the material, but realize that they understand how they understood it and where the difficulties arose. The teacher in this method is a moderator and mentor, not just a source of information. This approach contributes to the formation of a conscious attitude to the educational process and to increase the educational motivation of students. In addition, the assessment of the assimilation of the lecture material using the Kahoot program in the form of testing was evaluated, which allowed in an interactive form to check the level of understanding of the topic and get prompt feedback from students.

Students took an active part in the discussion of the material and joined the interactive survey, which contributed to the formation of practical skills of analysis.

In general, the open lecture of Kateryna KARABACН was held at a high scientific and methodological level and received positive feedback from students and teachers of the department.
