DEPARTMENT OF HYDROBIOLOGY AND ICHTHYOLOGY 20 + 1 YEAR FROM THE DATE OF FORMATION (TO THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FACULTY OF LIVESTOCK RAISING AND WATER BIORESOURCES)

September 23, 2021

The Faculty of Livestock Raising and Water Bioresources has been providing highly qualified specialists in the specialty 207 "Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture" for more than 20 years (since 1999). Their further work is aimed at creating a strategic food and raw material base of bioresources of natural reservoirs and artificial reproduction and cultivation of various aquaculture and mariculture facilities for human consumption. The Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology was established on September 1, 1999 at the Faculty of “Zooengineering” (now Livestock Raising and Water Bioresources) to train specialists in aquaculture on the basis of the decision of the Academic Council of the University and by order of the Rector № 318 dated 13.09.2000. The department was headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Corresponding Member of NASU, Professor Mykola Yevtushenko.

The purpose of the department was to implement the State Program of Ukraine for training highly qualified specialists - hydrobiologists and ichthyologists for enterprises of the Ministry of Agriculture, institutions of the Ministry of Ecology, Protection and Use of Natural Resources, state committees of water and fisheries, research institutions, higher educational institutions of different levels of accreditation. During these years, there was an active transformation of departments, in particular the Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology was divided into 2 separate - hydrobiology and general zoology, headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Petro Shevchenko. Subsequently, the Department of General Zoology was renamed the Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology. Such changes were connected with the establishment of the Faculty of Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture by the order of the rector № 272 of June 25, 2001. The first dean of the new faculty was elected Ph.D., associate professor P. Shevchenko. Later, the Faculty of Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture was renamed the Fisheries (Order of the Rector № 510 of 07.04.2005), which became part of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Livestock Raising and Water Bioresources of the University and lasted until the end of 2014.

Employees of the Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology in 2005-2014.

Both the Department of Hydrobiology and the Department of General Zoology and Ichthyology of the Faculty have been actively working to create and strengthen their own material and technical base for the practical training of future professionals. For this purpose, in 2010-2012, training laboratories of hydrobiology, ichthyology and training-research-production laboratory of aquarium fish farming were established on the basis of Nemeshayev Agrotechnical College. Here, third-year students during the year took a theoretical course of disciplines of the department according to the curriculum and performed a variety of laboratory workshops, training and technological practices.

In the period 2010−2014, both departments and their staff worked hard to create electronic training courses (ENC), improve the methodological support of academic disciplines − the creation of textbooks, manuals, workshops and other teaching materials.

During this time, the efforts of the two departments implemented a number of scientific and contractual projects obtained as a result of competitions in the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the State Agency for Fisheries, which actively involved graduate students and students.

Publishing activity of the department of hydrobiology and ichthyology, hydrobiology, general zoology and ichthyology for the period 2000-2021.

Successful graduate students of the Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology − Natalia Rudyk-Leuska, Ivan Maistruk, Alexander Lysak, Oleg Smolensky, Vitaly Khomych, Maxim Khalturin, Alina Makarenko.

In the process of restructuring and optimizing the structure of the university in 2015, the Institute of Livestock Raising and Water Bioresources was liquidated, and the faculties that were part of it (livestock production technologies and fisheries) were merged into one - the Faculty of Livestock Raising and Water Bioresources. The Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology was restored in the structure of the new faculty. Ph.D., associate professor P. .Shevchenko was appointed Head of the Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology. In December 2020, Natalia Rudyk-Leuska, Ph.D., Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology.
