Department of Forest Mensuration and Forest Management

Student scientific group «Taxator»

Group leader: Victor Myroniuk,

Doctor of Science, Professor of the Department of Forest Mensuration and Forest Management.

    Students of our group get acquainted with modern electronic measuring equipment, and also acquire practical use of it in field conditions. And these are electronic measuring caliper, field computers, laser altimeters, devices for studying tree growth, etc. The use of high-tech equipment requires a deeper understanding of the data analysis process - our students study the R system for processing information and preparing high-quality graphics for presentations.

The main areas of scientific activity:

- research on the productivity of forest coenoses and growth of forest plantations;
- application of satellite survey materials for mapping forest stands and establishing their taxing parameters;
- use of unmanned aerial vehicles for accounting of forests and hunting fauna;
- forest fire monitoring based on Earth remote sensing data, studies of the spatial distribution of fires and mapping of fires;
- modeling of the shape of tree trunks in order to account for the wood stock;
- modeling of the dynamics of the main taxation indicators of plantations;
- analysis of the size of forest use and ways of its optimization;
- study of the electronic wood accounting system and 3D scanning technology;
- research of the taxation structure, assortment and commodity structure of tree stands.
