The department research activity

Traditional research areas:

• Forest ecology and typology
• Natural forest regeneration
• Improving the forest quality and productivity
• Silvicultural cutting systems
• Optimization of forest stands
• Complex mechanization of reforestation and logging;
• Integrated protection of the forest from insect pests and phytopathogens;
• Hunting tourism, hunting resources and hunting products.

Priority research areas:

• Use of environmentally safe and cost effective ways not clear cutting of forests while maintaining biodiversity
• Development of optimal ways for recreational forest management
• Decorative and protective afforestation of heaps of coal mines of Donbass
• Natural regeneration of forests in Polissia and Forest Steppe of Ukraine
• Use and recovery of wild forest berry plants.
• Improving the prevention and protection of forests from fires, including forests on radioactively contaminated lands
• Use of GIS “Field Map” to study forests of Ukraine
• Improvement of the mechanization of logging works and forest exploitation;
• Improvement of the condition of trees in forest plantations;
• Determination of the correctness and timeliness of appointment of selective and continuous sanitary felling;
  determination of the main factors causing the deterioration of the sanitary condition of plantations;
• Forecasting the dynamics of populations of dangerous harmful insects and pathogens for the main forest-forming tree species;
  study of the diversity and population of forest animals and birds;
• Ecological and ethological studies of wild animals;
