Professor Andriy Bilous delivered a series of lectures at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences

January 28, 2022
Cooperation between the Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Landscape-Park Management of NUBiP of Ukraine and the Institute of Forest Sciences of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW, Poland) aims at the improvement of educational and scientific training of forestry specialists.

In January 2022, at the invitation of Polish counterparts, Andriy Bilous, Head of the Department of Forest Taxation and Forestry Management, delivered a series of lectures on “The Impact of Disturbances on Forest Ecosystems” and conducted a series of seminars for master students of the Faculty of Forestry of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Due to the climate changes, forests become more vulnerable to fires, storms, human activities, mass reproduction of insects and the rapid spread of pathogens that can disrupt the natural structure, critically change the course of life and reduce the amount of biomass in ecosystems. Such circumstances necessitate the study of the patterns of disruptions, preventive measures and management of forest ecosystems to minimize the negative impact on forests.

A similar course is taught as a part of a special English-language training program for master students of the Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Landscape-Park Management. It aims at training professionals ready to adapt leading international forestry experience into national forestry.

In addition to educational work, an important result of the visit to the Polish university was the discussion of scientific, technical and organizational conditions of cooperation between the departments in the field of forest taxonomy, forest management and forest resources management, in particular, joint research, conferences and cooperation of student societies.

Meetings with SGGW Rector Michał Zasada and former SGGW Rector (2002-2008), Honorary Doctor of NUBiP of Ukraine Tomasz Borecki, well-known scientists in the field of forest sciences, were devoted to further cooperation and joint development of forestry.

In May 2021 under the Erasmus + program, Dr. Roman Wójcik and Dr. Wojciech Kędziora from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences delivered a series of lectures on Polish forestry for master students of the Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Landscape-Park Management (https://nubip.edu.ua/node/90657).
