English Practice and Global Context: NUBiP Philology Students Attend Lecture by World Bank Vice President

On September 11, the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP) welcomed a special guest — Antonella BASSANI, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia. She gave a public lecture titled "Food Security and Resilience: Ukraine's Global Impact." Representatives from the World Bank and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine also joined the event.

For philology students of the Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogy, this meeting was a great chance to practice their English and learn more about important global issues. During her talk, Antonella BASSANI explained the key aspects of global food security. She spoke about broken supply chains, new export routes, and safety risks for Ukraine. She also explained how the World Bank Group is helping Ukrainian agriculture.

A main part of the lecture was about rebuilding Ukraine’s agricultural sector. Antonella BASSANI stressed that it is not only about solving wartime problems, but also about creating long-term investment plans and rebuilding transport and logistics together with the Ministry.

The lecture was very useful for future philologists because they practiced listening to a high-level international speaker. They learned new vocabulary related to economics, investment, logistics, and food security. During the Q&A session, students asked questions in English and got clear answers. They also took photos with the guests to remember the day.

It was a useful experience that showed why knowing foreign languages is essential today.
