Scientist and world-class public and political figure: the 155th anniversary of M.S. Hrushevsky was celebrated at the faculty of humanities and pedagogy
Today, on September 23, 2021, the National university of bioresources hosted a scientific conference with international participation named "Socio-political and scientific activities of M.S. Hrushevsky in the international aspect (to the 155th anniversary of his birth)."
The conference was organized by the faculty of humanities and pedagogy of NULES of Ukraine and the Municipal institution of higher education "Barsky M. Hrushevsky humanitarian and pedagogical college".
This is the fifth scientific event dedicated to the developer of Ukrainian statehood, which was held by the department of international relations and social sciences. The attention of the scientific community was attracted by historical readings "M. Hrushevsky: we are not icon painters, but historians", round tables: "Thanks to historical memory a person becomes a person, people - a nation, a country - a state (M. Hrushevsky)", "M. Hrushevsky’s activity as the chairman of the Taras Shevchenko scientific society", International scientific-practical conference" The phenomenon of Mykhailo Hrushevsky as a statesman, scientist, citizen (to the 150th anniversary of his birth)".
The conference was attended by 140 researchers-scientists, instructors, students of higher educational institutions.
The geography of foreign participants included Greece, Israel, Belarus, Lithuania, Great Britain, Poland, and the United States.
Participants from Ukraine represented the leading scientific institutions: the Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Source Studies. M.S. Hrushevsky NASU - Kyiv and Lviv branches; Institute of History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Mykhailo Hrushevsky Historical and Memorial Museum; I.F. Kuras Institute for Political and Ethnonational Studies; Institute of Ceramics - a branch of the Institute of Ethnology of NAAS; museum-reserve of Ukrainian pottery in Opishne; National scientific agricultural library of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.

Dean of the faculty Inna Savytska and head of the research department of the University Volodymyr Otchenashko made a welcoming speech at the plenary session, emphasizing the importance of understanding the figure of M. Hrushevsky as a builder of Ukrainian statehood.
They were supported by Mykola Tomenko, Doctor of political sciences, member of the supervisory board of NULES of Ukraine and moderator of the plenary session, who noted the importance of the achievements of the scientist's political period, including the introduction of parliamentary traditions in the UPR.
The participants of the conference were addressed by the Dean of the faculty of humanities and pedagogy of Barsky Hrushevsky humanitarian and pedagogical college, Doctor of pedagogical sciences Maya Moroz who emphasized the popularization of the figure and ideas of M. Hrushevsky to cultivate a sense of patriotism among young people, noting that Vinnytsia has deep relationships with the Hrushevsky’s family, and in the college itself holding events related to M. Hrushevsky is an annual practice.
During the plenary session, 15 reports were delivered and discussed, which revealed the versatility of M. Hrushevsky's personality. Among others, the reports of Valery Soldatenko, Doctor of historical sciences, professor, corresponding member of the NASU, chief researcher of the Kuras Institute of political and ethnonational studies of NASU (Kyiv, Ukraine) "On the scientific substantiation of the platform of the Ukrainian revolution by M. Hrushevsky (March - April 1917)"; Nadiya Shcherbak, Doctor of historical sciences, professor (Kyiv Institute of Intellectual Property and Law of the National University "Odessa Law Academy" (Kyiv, Ukraine) "M. Hrushevsky and the creation of a scheme of Ukrainian history", Svyatoslav Yusov, candidate of historical sciences, senior researcher History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine) "The first commemoration of the figure of Mykhailo Hrushevsky at Columbia University. 1938."

The highlight of the plenary session was the presentation of the film "House of Hrushevsky" - a joint project of the Scientific society for the history of diplomacy and international relations, historical and memorial museum of Mykhailo Hrushevsky, created with the support of the Hans Seidel Foundation in Ukraine. The author of the text is the director of the M.Hrushevsky historical and memorial museum, Svitlana Pankova, candidate of historical sciences, producer Tetyana Kryukovska, the presenters are scientists of the M. Hrushevsky historical and memorial museum Yulia Naidukh, Mykola Fedyai.
Discussion of the significance of M. Hrushevsky's scientific achievements and social and political activity continued at the section panel, in which more than 100 participants took part (on-line 55, off-line in classroom mode – 50). The moderator, head of the department of international relations Vasyl Strilets asked a controversial question: Did M. Hrushevsky take an active part in the Ukrainian resistance movement after returning to Soviet Ukraine?, which provoked a lively discussion among the participants.
Alla Kyrydon, doctor of historical sciences, professor, director of the State scientific institution "Encyclopedic publishing house" (Kyiv, Ukraine) made a report "Historical personification as a marker of the policy of memory."
Olena Lyubovets, doctor of historical sciences, senior research fellow of the State scientific institution "Encyclopedic publishing house" (Kyiv, Ukraine), who spoke at the plenary session, acquainted the audience with the project of the Great Encyclopedia of Ukraine, noting that the 30-volume edition already exists in electronic form, which generalizes more than 60 thousand scientific terms.
The report of Tetyana Chumak, associate professor of the department of journalism and language communication, describes Hrushevsky's contribution to the development of journalism.
Victoria Shekhovtseva-Buryanova, a graduate student of the department of philosophy and international communication, outlined the problems of Ukrainian identity, emphasizing that in the early twentieth century. the presence of this feature was generally questioned.
Andriy Sorokin, a graduate student at the department of international relations and social sciences, acquainted the audience with the results of his scientific investigations concerning the memorialization of Hrushevsky’s memory in the print media, including the Khreschatyk newspaper.
The panel hosted speeches by students, among whom the greatest resonance was caused by the reports of Sofia Bezkorovaina (specialty "International relations", 2nd year), Arseniy Motuzyuk (specialty "Agricultural engineering", 1st year).
Discussion of the announced reports in the format of a "round table" with elements of discussion allowed to understand as widely as possible the phenomenon of the figure of M. Hrushevsky, who is the undisputed leader of the struggle of Ukrainians for state independence. Masters of the specialty "International relations, public communications and regional studies" were especially active in the discussion and debate.
The participants of the conference noted the importance of popularizing the scientific and journalistic heritage of M. Hrushevsky as the most expressive figure among the builders of Ukrainian statehood.
