Department History
The origin of the Department reaches the 30s of the XX century, and as an independent unit began to exist in 1952.
The first head of the Department was Doctor of Philosophy, Professor V.I. Kolodiazhnyi, who headed the Department from 1957 to 1963.
From 1963 to 1970 the Department was headed by an Honored Worker of the Higher School of the USSR, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor N.A. Lohvin created his philosophical school of research problems of modern natural science in the department. From 1970 to 1995 the Department was headed by Honored Worker of Higher School Doctor of Philosophy, Professor V. P. Kliuchnikov whose research interests included the problems of cognitive methodology. From 1995 to 1999 the department was headed by Doctor of Philosophy, Professor B.A. Holovko researched problems of philosophical anthropology. From 1999 till June 2000 the chair was held by professor A. M. Chernii whose problems were studied in philosophical anthropology, Ukrainian philosophy, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of science. From August 2000 until April 2018, the department was headed by Professor L.A. Chekal, whose field of research interests included the problems of the philosophy of technology and social philosophy.
From April 2018 until March 2021, the Department was headed by Associate Professor I.M. Savitska. At present the duties of the head of the department are performed by Associate Professor V.P. Kultenko.
For almost seven decades of the Department of Philosophy's existence, and since 2020, the Department of Philosophy and International Communication as a university-wide unit has been and continues to be focused on:
1) organizing and conducting educational, scientific, and methodological activities. The department's academic staff carries out educational, scientific, methodological, cultural and educational work with students; conducts relevant research in priority areas of science and widely implements the results obtained in production and the educational process;
Since 2020, the department has been a graduate department, and the department's research staff has been training specialists in the educational program “International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies”.
2) Organization and conduct of scientific and innovative activities. The most important among them are: training of graduate students, approval of dissertation topics, preliminary certification of graduate students and applicants; organization and creation of conditions for conducting research and development (R&D) work in the department's profile; creation of conditions for attracting students and graduate students to scientific work (supervision of students participating in student scientific clubs, scientific conferences, seminars, preparation of students for participation in international and all-Ukrainian competitions and all-Ukrainian competitions of student research papers), etc.
Today, the Department of Philosophy and International Communication focuses on the study of a wide range of philosophical issues and problems of international communication. Teachers of the department care about the formation of students as professionals in the context of building and maintaining the communication field, forming a strategy for the activities and development of an organization or subject of international interaction.Professional training is based on the best practices of domestic and foreign institutions.
