Publication NV.ua. Vice-rector Oleksandr LABENKO: NUBiP remains in demand due to its ranking in the international QS and Times Higher Education ratings and the status of a well-known brand in the agricultural, veterinary and biotechnological spheres
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, it seemed that the export of Ukrainian education was doomed to disappear. However, the reality of 2026 demonstrates something else: Ukrainian universities have not just survived, but transformed. Today, the education of foreigners in Ukraine is not only about money, but also about reputation and integration into the world space.
The figures speak for themselves: despite the war, as of January 1, 2026, 21 271 foreign students are studying in Ukraine. These are representatives of 127 countries around the world — from Morocco and India to Brazil and Canada.
According to the latest UGCMO surveys, 45% of foreigners who passed through the Ukrainian education system during the war are ready to recommend it to their friends. This is not just statistics — it is an unprecedented credit of trust. To find out how universities adapt to changes and how students change, we talked with representatives of universities that are ranked among the most popular among international students. And also — with a representative of the public sector and students, including the vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work and international activities Oleksandr LABENKO.
He notes that NUBiP of Ukraine ranks sixth in the ranking of universities in terms of the number of foreign students, and emphasizes that, among other things, foreign students of wartime show a new depth of motivation:
«Students who entered the university or continued their studies during a full-scale war are more motivated, have a clear position and goal. And their range of interests is broader than the purely professional knowledge and competencies acquired. Ukraine is popular in the world, so our applicants are more interested in our history, culture, and traditions.»
For such applicants, the key is the authority of the institution. According to Oleksandr LABENKO, NUBiP remains in demand due to its ranking in the international QS and Times Higher Education ratings and the status of a well-known brand in the agricultural, veterinary and biotechnological fields.
