GUEST LECTURE BY ARTEM ROGOVSKY, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AT MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY: ‘STUDY OF PATHOGENS OF ZOONOTIC ORIGIN: EXPERIENCE BASED ON THE RESULTS OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH’
In March, our alumnus, now a Doctor of Philosophy and Associate Professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine of Michigan State University (USA), Artem Rogovsky, visited the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. His visit was extremely pleasant, as he has been supporting our faculty for a long time by participating in various events. This visit was no exception.
Motivated students, postgraduate students and teaching staff of the faculty attended a guest lecture by Artem Rogovsky, organised with the support of the leadership of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Animal Health. The topic of the lecture was ‘Studying tick-borne zoonotic agents from deciphering the vector microbiota and host-pathogen interaction to characterizing new animal models’ is very relevant not only for the United States of America, where Lyme disease was first discovered, but also for Ukraine, as the number of cases of this disease is increasing every year in Ukraine.
The next meeting was also extremely interesting. During the discussion seminar, postgraduate students and faculty members had the opportunity to ask questions to the invited guest of the event. The topics of discussion included the career path of the internationally recognised scientist and participation in grant programmes, experimental animal studies, decoding of full-genome sequences, which is widely used in Artem Rogovsky's research, and much more.
Finally, our guest and honorary graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine presented the library of his native faculty with extremely valuable books and an equally valuable gift for the museum of the Department of Vertebrate Biomorphology named after acad. V.G. Kasyanenko.
We look forward to further creative cooperation with the talented graduate of the Faculty, Doctor of Philosophy and Associate Professor Artem Rogovsky!
