Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Teachers and Students Participated in an Online Seminar on Dispensing Medicines

Teachers of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine  of the Department of Vertebrate Physiology and Pharmacology, Professors Iryna Derkach, Associate Professors Hryhorii Boiko and Vadym Ishchenko, along with sixth-year Master’s degree students of specialty N6 – "Veterinary Medicine" at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in "Veterinary Pharmacy," participated in the online seminar "Dispensing Medicines to Consumers from a Pharmacy: From Regulatory to Practical Aspects." The event was organized by the State Institution "Scientific and Methodological Center for Higher and Professional Pre-Higher Education" in collaboration with the Zhytomyr Basic Pharmaceutical Vocational College.

Purpose of the Seminar
The main goal of the seminar was to highlight current issues related to the regulatory framework and the responsibilities of pharmaceutical professionals in dispensing prescription drugs. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the specifics of the "Affordable Medicines" program, the process of obtaining prescriptions, and to explore in detail the shelf life of medicines and the legal regulations surrounding the circulation of medical cannabis in Ukraine.

"Dispensing Medicines by Prescription: Rules, Requirements, Responsibility" – Speaker: Nataliia Kosiachenko, Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences Disciplines at Zhytomyr Basic Pharmaceutical Vocational College (ZBPVC).

"How the ‘Affordable Medicines’ Program Works: Practical Tips for Patients" – Speaker: Nataliia Zavadska, Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Disciplines, ZBPVC.

"Shelf Life of Medicines: Is It Safe to Ignore?" – Speaker: Tetiana Zubrytska, Pharmacist, Clinical Research Professional, Lecturer of the Highest Qualification Category, ZBPVC.

"Regulatory and Legal Framework for Medical Cannabis Circulation in Ukraine" – Speaker: Nadiia Senkiv, Pharmacist, Head of the Pharmaceutical-Laboratory Department, ZBPVC.

"Therapeutic Properties and Safety Profile of Medical Cannabis" – Speaker: Iryna Lutsak, Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacist, Clinical Research Professional, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, Lecturer-Methodologist, ZBPVC.

Importance of Participation
Participation of faculty members and students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in such events contributes to enhancing the professional competence of future veterinary doctors. The seminar provided participants with valuable knowledge on the regulatory aspects of pharmaceutical activities, current challenges, and prospects for industry development. Key discussion topics included the specifics of dispensing medicines, the responsibilities of pharmacists, and modern approaches to using medical cannabis in treatment.
Thanks to such events, students can deepen their knowledge and apply the acquired information in their future professional activities, while faculty members can exchange experiences with colleagues and implement new teaching methodologies in the educational process.
