Shakespeare for all times! The department of English philology paid tribute to the memory of the famous writer
Today, Ukraine is going through difficult times, but even in such periods of life, high literature comes to the rescue, from which you can get answers to difficult questions, find the right solutions and comfort for the soul.
On April 23 the whole world honors the memory of the famous writer, poet, playwright William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare was an English playwright of the Elizabethan era, actor and poet. One of the most famous playwrights in the world, the author of at least 17 comedies, 10 Chronicles, 11 tragedies, 5 poems and a cycle of 154 sonnets. Shakespeare is recognized as the greatest English playwright of all time. He is considered a national hero and one of the symbols of England, its national poet. His works have been translated into many languages of the world and appear on the theater stage more often than the plays of any other playwright who has ever lived and created.
The department of English philology of the faculty of humanities and pedagogy of NULES of Ukraine also joined the memory of the great artist. At the circle meeting «BUSINESS COMMUNICATION AND JOURNALISM» a round table was held on the topic "Shakespeare's life and masterpieces".
Senior Lecturer of the Department of English Philology Indira Renska she introduced students to interesting facts related to the life of William Shakespeare. April 23 is the date of birth of the poet and playwright. Ironically, this day is also the date of William Shakespeare's death (1616) at the age of 52. We don't know for sure about his personal life or preferences. Experts even believe that most of Shakespeare's works are lost, because the texts of plays, for example, were not published during his lifetime. The image of Shakespeare-man available to us consists of a good half of Legends, Legends, and myths. The facts about his life are scattered, sometimes contradictory, and biographical gaps are involuntarily filled with assumptions and hypotheses. But this only adds to the mysterious appeal of the figure of the English bard, making it especially close for anyone who is interested in him and his work. After all, each of us, reading it, can know "our Shakespeare".
Shakespeare is one of the few whose quotes have already become a part of our lives. And it is always relevant. One of his most famous phrases is "the whole world is a theater, and the people in it are actors." And he himself is such a person who raises many questions: was Shakespeare Shakespeare? Was there Shakespeare at all? Shakespeare as an artist is unexpected, and such are either repulsive or extremely attractive.
Students had the opportunity to enrich their English vocabulary with unique Shakespearean sayings, discover previously unknown aspects of the life and work of the Great British author, see the truth of the statement "Shakespeare for all time", find out the relevance of the thoughts and ideas of the great bard and for such social processes, in the maelstrom of which Ukraine is now. It is no coincidence that the Ukrainian elite of past eras fought for the right to "Ukrainian Shakespeare" – a writer about whom Panteleimon Kulish said, "Shakespeare is a mirror of the world."
Of course, the most popular works of William Shakespeare are his sonnets. That is why the participants of the circle got acquainted with the artist's sonnets in the original. Shakespeare's days in Ukraine continue as evidence that our nation protects and protects significant human values.
May the High Word give us all wisdom in life and strength to overcome difficulties and obstacles... And go forward-to victory!
