Transfusiology and anesthesiology from A to Z: at the Department of Surgery and Pathophysiology named after Academician I.O. Povazhenka held a seminar with master classes for practitioners of veterinary medicine
On June 11, on Friday, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the NUBiP of Ukraine hosted an event that gathered veterinary specialists from many regions of our country, in particular, Kyiv, Odesa, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Dnipro and Kharkiv - a seminar with master classes for practicing veterinary doctors of medicine "TRANSFUSIOLOGY and ANESTHESIOLOGY". This event was organized by the staff of the Department of Surgery and Pathophysiology named after Acad. I.O. Povazhenka would not have been possible without the sponsorship of well-known companies specializing in the sale of veterinary medicines (UVT - represented by Olga Moldovan, Elanco - represented by Yury Shcherban, HeelVet - represented by Inna Tatsyuk), equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of animals (MedExim - in the person of Roman Andriets), goods for hemotransfusion and the organization of blood banks (RedMed - in the person of Maksym Kostenko), express tests for the diagnosis of infectious diseases of animals (VetZooMag - in the person of Anna Donets), equipment for veterinary practice (UkrVet - in the person Yaroslav Klymenko), which made it possible to hold a seminar at a high level.
About 80 doctors of veterinary medicine attended the seminar: the lecture part of the sectional work was attended by all participants of the event, master classes - by 25 participants.
At the beginning of the seminar, the deputy dean of the FVM of the NUBiP of Ukraine, Vasyl Benydiktovych Danilov, and the academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Anatoly Yosypovich Mazurkevich, gave a welcome speech, whose sincere speeches inspired the participants of the event to fruitful work.
The lecture and practical parts of the master classes were held in two sections. Oleksiy Egorov, post-graduate student of the department, was the moderator of the "TRANSFUSIOLOGY" section, and Viktor Doroshchuk, associate professor of the department, was the moderator of the "ANESTHESIOLOGY" section.
At the "TRANSFUSIOLOGY" section, the head of the department, Mykola Malyuk, gave four lectures: "Organization of the Animal Blood Bank. Equipment and consumables for hemotransfusion", "Donor search (selection criteria). Determining blood compatibility: how to avoid mistakes", "Peculiarities of blood transfusion in dogs. Collection of blood, storage and preparation of preparations from it" and "Features of blood transfusion in cats. Sampling of blood, storage and production of preparations from it." In this section, Orest Dobrovolskyi, a representative of the HeelVet company, spoke with a report "Complex bioregulatory drugs TM HeelVet in the practice of a veterinarian", Dmytro Vakulenko, a doctor of veterinary medicine, with a report "Simaljeks. A story from the experience of practical use", and Anna Donets, specialist of VetZooMag chain of veterinary pharmacies, with a report "Using rapid tests in the diagnosis of diseases of domestic animals".
At the "ANESTHESIOLOGY" section, associate professor of the department Pavel Solonin read a lecture on the topic "Anesthesia in dogs and cats: theoretical foundations from A to Z." Kateryna Ivnytska, a doctor of veterinary medicine, made a report on the topic "Non-inhalation anesthesia and monitoring the patient's condition: what to pay attention to when choosing an anesthetic", and Dmytro Kovalenko, a graduate student of the department, gave a report on the topic "Inhalation anesthesia and monitoring the patient's condition: choosing a strategy and monitoring ". Nila Babkina, a scientific consultant of the BioTestLab company, also spoke with a report "Product RELAX" and Lyuba Detkovich, a doctor of veterinary medicine at the company Arterium, who spoke with a report "Product RELANIA. A modern approach to analgesia".
At the practical master class of the "TRANSFUSIOLOGY" section, Professor Mykola Malyuk was assisted by a doctor of veterinary medicine, an assistant of the department Vitaliy Oliynyk and a graduate student of the department Oleksiy Yehorov. The participants of the master class got to know and worked with the equipment used in the animal blood bank, learned how to select a donor, correctly collect blood, determine its group, receive plasma and erythrocyte mass, perform hemotransfusion and monitor the condition of the recipient animal.
The practical master class of the "ANESTHESIOLOGY" section was conducted by associate professors of the department Viktor Doroshchuk and Pavlo Solonin, as well as graduate student Dmytro Kovalenko. The participants of the master class met and worked on the anesthetic equipment for inhalation anesthesia, premedicated the animal, learned the features of intubation and connecting the animal to the equipment, monitoring the patient's condition, and exiting anesthesia. Similarly, non-inhalation anesthesia equipment was shown and used.
The equipment of the operating animal blood bank of the department was clearly demonstrated to the participants of the seminar.
The end of the hemotransfusion master class was crowned with a blood transfusion of a cat whose owners brought it to the faculty clinic right during the event to save its life. It was possible to do this, which for all present was an indisputable proof of the effectiveness of such a method of treating animals as hemotransfusion.
After the master classes, a short "Question-Answer" session was held, at the end of which the seminar participants were ceremoniously presented with personal certificates.
