NULES students-journalists took part in the discussion "Linguistic landscape of the capital of Ukraine"

Within the framework of cooperation between the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, instructors and students of Journalism specialty discussed topical issues within the Linguistic Landscape of the Capital of Ukraine at the meeting of the ZMovnyky linguistic club.

One of the priority activities of the department of journalism and language communication, aimed at expanding the opportunities for students to receive education and gain professional experience, is cooperation with other institutions of higher education in Ukraine.

Thus, on February 15, 2022, instructors and students majoring in Journalism had the opportunity to take part in a meeting of the linguistic club "ZMovnyky" of the Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Note that joint activities of students of the two basic institutions of higher education in Ukraine have become traditional and take place on a regular basis. This meeting united the participants around the crucial topic "Linguistic landscape of the capital of Ukraine".

The guest of the meeting - Olha Shevchuk-Klyuzheva, candidate of philology, member of the National Commission on state language standards, chairman of the board of the Center for research and social initiatives "OUR SPACE", founder and creative director of graphic design studio "Perfekt Design Company" - suggested the following issues for discussion:

• picture of the language space of the capital,

• prospects of sociolinguistic direction for Ukrainian linguistics,

• the most controversial names of local businesses.

Not only students joined the conversation, but also well-known scientists in Ukraine and abroad: Lyubov Struhanets (Volodymyr Hnatyuk Ternopil State National Pedagogical University), Tetyana Semashko, Natalia Adamchuk (National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine), Serhiy Riznyk (Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University), Valentyna Tytarenko (Ivan Franko Zhytomyr State University), Natalia Rodyuk (Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University) and others.

During the fruitful discussion, it was clarified what the linguistic landscape is and how it is represented in Ukraine; identified the main trends in naming local businesses; traced how the modern linguistic "face" of Kyiv looks; recommendations for improving the names that present the business were voiced; The question arose: is it possible to influence the process of slander?

Today, the ZMovnyky linguistic club is a discussion platform for discussing pressing language issues. We thank the organizers for the opportunity to join the fruitful discussions and for new ideas for research of future journalists.
