“Ukraine” brand: the humanarians have discussed new methods of popularizing the Ukrainian state

1 грудня 2021 року

On the eve of a significant event for every citizen of Ukraine - the 30th anniversary of the All-Ukrainian referendum on December 1, 1991 - a meeting with public and political figure Mykola Tomenko took place at the faculty of humanities and pedagogy.

The topic of the meeting "How to present modern Ukraine in the world?" Was announced. aroused the interest of the student-teaching staff, so there were more people willing to attend the event than allowed by the quarantine requirements.
A pleasant surprise was the participation in the event of the Minister of education and science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet,rRector Stanislav Nikolaenko, vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work Vasyl Shynkaruk, who greeted the participants and noted the importance of holding a meeting on topical issues.

At the beginning, the audience was invited to watch a documentary in which the direct participants of the events presented their views on the preconditions for the declaration of independence of Ukraine and the results of the All-Ukrainian referendum on December 1, 1991. Theses of the film, which provoked a lively reaction: "Declaration of Independence - the first nail in the homeland of the Soviet Union", "Ukrainian miracle, in which no one believed."
Dean Inna Savytska stressed that the event of December 1, 1991 was crucial for everyone, because the recognition of Ukraine's sovereignty and independence by the international community directly depended on the results of citizens' will, and it is symbolic that the first days of full-time study the formation of the New Ukrainian school, which is the result of the transformation processes of the 30-year period.

In his speech, Mykola Tomenko, chairman of the University supervisory board, professor of the department of philosophy and international communication, stressed that today the idea of Ukraine as a subject of international politics is part of the work of scientists, politicians, diplomats, businessmen who should form a positive image of our country. "Ukraine" and promote the brand "Ukraine", to stand in the way of anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

Mykola Volodymyrovych shared his own memories of the events of the Referendum, when he, a graduate student of Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, personally participated in the preparation of the Referendum as a member of the People's Movement of Ukraine, working as a volunteer. In his opinion, at that difficult time pro-Ukrainian forces managed to find a form of communication with society. Proof of this is the regional dimension of support for the proclamation of the Act of Independence, in particular in the Crimea - 54%, in Sevastopol - 57%, in the Donetsk region - 83.9%, in Luhansk - 83.6%.
The result of the All-Ukrainian referendum was a breakthrough in Ukraine's geopolitical isolation, but many mistakes and miscalculations were made over the 30-year period, including underestimating the systematic work of Russian propaganda in favor of Russian identity, the lack of a 2001 census, and the spread of political memes ("We went the wrong way," etc.).

The key problem is the divergence of ideas and dreams about the state then and its current state. In the early 1990s, the vast majority of society believed that in 30 years Ukraine would become the average EU state. However, mistakes and underestimation of the role of history have led to the weakness of the position of our state in the world geopolitical space. M. Tomenko considers the publication of popular science blogs to be one of the methods of popularizing the Ukraine brand. Insufficient attention to the use of such technologies creates a change in society's attitude to basic issues: the Holodomor, the person of Stalin.
Thus, it is necessary to place new emphasis on the practice of building the institutions of statehood, introducing a worldview debate, maintaining a balance between national and European interests. It is for this reason that the role of Ukrainian diplomats, internationalists, and specialists in international communication is growing.
Students asked the speaker a number of questions, including the possibility of applying the example of Poland in the field of education in Ukraine and the upcoming presidential campaign in 2024, to which the speaker gave a thorough answer.
As a result, it can be noted that holding such meetings is an additional motivation for students in professional growth and an incentive to form an active civic position.
