А study visit of Ukrainian delegation on the protection of human health and the environment in accordance with EU standards in the field of qualitative and quantitative analysis of GMOs

          18-21 March 2014 in Sofia (Bulgaria) held a study visit of  Ukrainian delegation on the protection of human health and the environment in accordance with EU standards in the field of qualitative and quantitative analysis of GMOs. The event was organized under the program TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument), European Commission.

 
Ukrainian delegation consisting of competent individuals in the industry. It includes: Olena S. Zirnzak, Director of Foreign Economic Relations of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and Eugene R. Kanarsky, Assistant to Rector of the NULES of Ukraine for International Affairs and Teaching Assistant of Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biosafety Department of the NULES of Ukraine.
The main purpose of the visit was to strengthen the administrative capacity of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine to protect human health and the environment in line with European standards and EU legislation. During the visit raised questions on the monitoring of GMOs, the procedures to inspections, registration and sale of genetically modified seeds under EU law, to determine the rights of copyright holders registered biotech plant varieties in accordance with EU legislation and regulatory support and registration of GM plant varieties.
Discussed the organization and conduct exchanges of administrative, academic and research staff between the relevant agencies of both countries, and organization of the continuation of relevant projects in this area in accordance with the regulations of the European Commission.
Also met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Bulgaria, Mykola F. Baltazhi, who noted the importance of cooperation with Bulgarian colleagues in the field of agriculture and supporting initiatives to develop these relationships.
