Meeting with the delegation of the United States on the establishment of a global system of agriculture and the project to create a global system Agromonitoring GEO-GLAM
Representatives from Space Research Institute NAS Ukraine and SSA Ukraine, Prof. Nataliia Kussul, Deputy Director, and Dr. Sergii Skakun, Head of Laboratory for Satellite Monitoring, and National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Prof. Andrii Shelestov, Head of Department of Software Engineering, met in Kyiv with the USA delegation, Dr. Inbal Becker-Reshef (University of Maryland, Department of Geographical Sciences) and Mark Lindeman (Crop Assessment Analyst, Foreign Agricultural Service, US Department of Agriculture) that lead the development of the Global Agriculture Monitoring System (GEO-GLAM) within the Group on Earth Observation (GEO). USA representatives provided the latest information on GEO-GLAM, elaboration of Implementation Phases and development of requirements for EO data acquisition to be delivered and discussed with the CEOS. Ukrainian representatives shared the current results achieved within the JECAM and SOAR-JECAM projects on the use of satellite images for crop yield forecasting and crop area estimation, and planned future activities within JECAM and GEO-GLAM. It was discussed that Ukraine will be among 5 countries that will participate in the Implementation Phases 1 and 2 of the GEO-GLAM. Further collaborative activities within projects of GEO were discussed as well.
