New fellowship opportunities: The Matsumae International Foundation (Japan)

   The Matsumae International Foundation (Japan) annually grants 20 scholarships to foreign young scientists for research at Japanese public and private universities, research centers and companies.

   The duration of the followiship is from 3 to 6 months from April 2021 to March 2022. The priority research areas include natural sciences, engineering and medicine. The Foundation provides a monthly scholarship of 220,000 yen to cover the cost of study (internship), accommodation, meals, daily commute, travel and medical insurance, and air travel. In addition, on arrival to Japan, the participants receive one-off payments of 120,000 yen to cover accommodation, travel costs, etc.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold a PhD Degree, or be recognised by MIF as possessing equivalent academic qualifications. 
  • Applicants must be at the age of 49 years old or younger at the time when documents are submitted.
  • Applicants must have sufficient abilities in the English or Japanese languages.
  • Applicants should not have past or current experiences of staying in Japan.
  • Applicants should be employed in their home countries, and must return to their countries upon completion of their MIF fellowship tenure.
