Regional Eastern European Fire Monitoring Center of NULES of Ukraine in cooperation with Boyarka Forest Experimental Station and Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Civil Protection tested the retardants using for localization of forest fires

June 13, 2017 Regional Eastern European Fire Monitoring Center of NULES of Ukraine officers prof. Sergiy Zibtsev, assistants Olexandr Soshenskiy and Vasyl Gumeniuk and experts of Ukrainian Research Institute of Civil Protection, tested a "ARGUSPROFI" experimental retardants effectiveness for localization of moving ground forest fires. The experiment was carried out with the participation and organizational support of leading experts of the Boyarka Forest Experimental Station – Chief forester Olexandr Shevchuk, Chief of fire management service, control of pest and diseases of forests Roman Sova and Chief forest district ranger Vasyl Beleka.

The experiment consisted of ground litter pretreatment retardant solution in a mature Scots pine stands. During the experiment set up three stripes of different widths – 0.5 m, 1.0 m and 1.5 m and started up controlled fire towards established stripes on an area measuring 10 by 40 meters. The distance between the experimental stripes was 10 m. The retardant consumption to create barrier strip was 500 grams per square meter.

As a result, the experiment retardant shown to be effective – the fire did not cross the lane width of 0.5 m. Established that during the experiment was II fire danger сlass on weather conditions. Further, will planned to test the retardant in more severe conditions upon the occurrence of V fire danger сlass.
